The best area to stay in Vela is the Old Town, particularly around the Venetian Harbour and the adjacent streets. This historic core of Vela is where you'll find much of its character. The Venetian Harbour is a picturesque focal point, lined with traditional tavernas and cafes overlooking the boats. The narrow, winding alleyways branching off from the harbour are filled with artisan shops, boutique hotels, and historic buildings, making it a wonderful area for a leisurely stroll. The main shopping street, known locally as "Odós Skgouli," runs parallel to the harbour a block or two inland.Couples often find the Old Town ideal for a romantic getaway. The evening atmosphere around the harbour is particularly pleasant, with many restaurants offering waterfront dining. The proximity to historic sites like the Firkas Fortress and the Maritime Museum adds to the appeal for those interested in local history and culture. For those who appreciate a slightly quieter yet still convenient location, the area just east of the Old Town, towards Koum Kapi beach, offers a good alternative. It maintains easy walking access to the Old Town's attractions but provides a bit more space and often offers hotels with sea views.

The best time to visit Vela, Western Greece, is during the shoulder seasons of May, June, September, and October. These months offer pleasant weather with comfortable temperatures, superb for exploring the region's natural beauty and historical sites without the peak summer crowds. You'll find the sea warm enough for swimming, and the local tavernas and shops are fully operational but less busy. For those looking to enjoy Vela's beaches and water activities, July and August provide the warmest sea temperatures and most sunshine. However, this is also the busiest period, with more visitors and higher prices for accommodation and flights.
