10/10 Excellent
"We stayed as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children). We had booked a room with a kitchen but unfortunately there was a mix up with the bookings and we didnt have this. They were very apologetic and offered us a complimentary dinner to make up for it. The town is very small so the location isnt far from anywhere but it is up quite a steep hill. However that does also mean you get amazing views."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Uquia?
The best area to stay in Uquia is within the village centre itself, particularly around the main square, Plaza Belgrano. This small, traditional village is located in the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The main square is the heart of Uquia, surrounded by the historic Iglesia de San Francisco de Paula, known for its unique angel paintings. Most of the village's limited accommodation options, local eateries, and artisan shops are concentrated within a few blocks of this central point. It's a very walkable area, allowing you to easily explore on foot.Solo travellers looking for an authentic and peaceful experience will find the village centre ideal. It offers a chance to connect with local culture and enjoy the stunning natural landscapes of the Quebrada without the bustle of larger towns. The quiet evenings are great for stargazing.Couples seeking a tranquil retreat and a base for exploring the region will also appreciate staying in the village centre.
When is the best time to go to Uquia?
The best time to visit Uquia is during the shoulder seasons, specifically April to May and September to October, when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are thinner.During these months, you'll experience comfortable daytime temperatures, typically ranging from 18-25°C, making it ideal for exploring the region's outdoor attractions. The skies are generally clear, providing excellent visibility for the stunning landscapes of the Quebrada de Humahuaca. This period avoids the colder winter months and the busier, hotter summer holiday season. For those interested in photography or hiking, these shoulder seasons offer the great conditions. The light is often softer, enhancing the colours of the mountains, and the trails are less crowded, allowing for a more peaceful experience. You'll find it easier to capture the unique beauty of the "Cerro de los Siete Colores" (Hill of Seven Colours) or the "Serranía de Hornocal" (Mountain Range of Fourteen Colours) without large groups. If you're planning a trip around local festivals, it's worth noting that some significant cultural events take place during the shoulder months, offering a chance to experience local traditions.
