May 2015 Castle Trosky, Český ráj, Czech republic Trosky is a castle ruin located some 75 km north from Prague in a natural reservation region called Český ráj (=Bohemian paradise) making a landmark of it. It is one of the most famous Czech castles and is situated on the summits of two basalt volcanic plugs. On the lower peak (47 m) is the two-storey structure called Baba (Old Woman), and on the higher outcrop (57 m) is the four-sided structure known as Panna (Virgin). It was built in 1380 and was used for a century. It is a ruin since 1648 when it was burned down during the Thirty years war. Since 1928 a propery of the Club of Czech tourists and a popular tourist spot. View from below, Virgin tower is on the left and Old Woman tower is on the right.
