Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Tornavacas?
The best area to stay in Tornavacas is within the village centre itself, particularly around the main square and the streets immediately surrounding it.

This compact village is located in the Jerte Valley, known for its cherry blossoms. The centre is characterised by traditional Extremaduran architecture, with narrow, winding streets and stone houses. The main square, Plaza de la Iglesia, is a natural gathering point, often hosting local markets and events. You'll find a few local eateries and shops concentrated here.

For couples seeking a peaceful retreat, staying in the village centre offers a delightful experience. You'll be within easy walking distance of the village's historic church, Ermita del Cristo del Amparo, and can enjoy leisurely strolls through the quiet streets. It's an ideal base for exploring the natural beauty of the Jerte Valley, with numerous walking trails accessible directly from the village.

Families will also find the village centre appealing due to its intimate size and the ease of accessing local amenities. Children can enjoy the open space of the main square, and the proximity to the surrounding countryside makes day trips to natural swimming pools and scenic viewpoints straightforward.
When is the best time to go to Tornavacas?
The best time to go to Tornavacas depends on your preferred activities, but for most visitors, the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) offer the most pleasant conditions.

Spring is particularly lovely, as the Jerte Valley, where Tornavacas is located, is famous for its cherry blossoms. This spectacle, usually in late March or early April, draws many visitors, but even outside of the peak blossom period, the weather is mild and the countryside is lush and green. It's a great time for gentle walks and enjoying the natural beauty without the summer heat.

Autumn provides comfortable temperatures, ideal for hiking and exploring the surrounding nature reserves. The changing colours of the leaves add to the scenic appeal, and it's a good time for those who enjoy outdoor activities like foraging for mushrooms or simply taking in the picturesque landscapes. The crowds are also generally smaller than during the cherry blossom season.
