Top Thung Yao Hotel Reviews

Best House Resort

Best House Resort

8/10 Good
"The room was clean and was just ideal for an overnight stay before we catch the boat to Koh Lipe in the morning. The staff were very welcoming, they can converse in English and Malay. Location is perfect for the boat to Koh Lipe, around 5 minutes walk from the hotel. There are plenty of places to eat in the area - good seafood restaurants. There is a 7 Eleven nearby too. I would strongly suggest that do not book the boat ticket direct from the hotel to avoid any issue trying to board at the jetty. We bought return tickets Pak Bara - Koh Lipe for 1400Baht. When we got to the jetty we were told by the boat company that the hotel does not have their own boat and use other company's boat but this company wasn't informed of our seats. The boat company told us that the person sold the tickets to us must come to the jetty to confirm. After back and forth, they let us board. We were worried of the return but we found the name of the company on the receipt and board with no issue despite we were very worried throughout the holiday. The best way to get the tickets is to buy direct from the boat company at the jetty. The hotel provides a parking space for us to leave the car whilst we were in Koh Lipe for 100Baht per day but do expect to come back to your car with marks and scratches. "

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Thung Yao?
For a truly relaxing and premium experience in Thung Yao, the best area to stay is around the Phraiwan Waterfall and its surrounding natural park.

This area offers a serene escape, located within lush rainforests and rubber plantations. The main draw is the multi-tiered Phraiwan Waterfall itself, a popular spot for cooling off and enjoying nature. Accommodation here tends to be boutique resorts that blend seamlessly with the environment, often featuring private villas and views of the greenery.

Couples seeking a tranquil retreat will find this area particularly appealing. The focus here is on relaxation and connecting with nature, with opportunities for gentle walks to the waterfall, enjoying a quiet meal with scenic views, or simply unwinding by a pool.
When is the best time to go to Thung Yao?
The best time to go to Thung Yao is during the dry season, which runs from November to April.

During these months, you'll experience pleasant weather with less humidity and sunshine, making it ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty and outdoor activities. The temperatures are comfortable, typically ranging from 25°C to 32°C, superb for enjoying the local beaches and national parks without the intense heat or heavy rainfall of other seasons.

Couples looking for a relaxing holiday will find this period particularly appealing. The calmer seas are superb for island hopping to nearby Trang islands, like Ko Muk and Ko Kradan, where you can enjoy snorkelling, swimming, and sunbathing. The evenings are also cooler, making dining out a comfortable experience.

Families travelling with children will also appreciate the dry season. The stable weather ensures that outdoor plans are less likely to be disrupted by rain, allowing for consistent enjoyment of attractions such as the Emerald Cave or trekking in the Khao Chong Wildlife Development Project.
