  • The Rio Grande River winds 12 miles down Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. When the water is high you can come down the 1,500 foot walled canyon. With less water flowing, guides take you 3 to 4 miles up the canyon with some spots having to portage. But take it all in stride because the views are breathtaking. I recommend Big Bend River Tours. You might get lucky and have the guides that take you a half mile up a side canyon. An excellent day excursion in the out of the way national park.

We hiked further than the 0.7 mile indicated on the signage, and ended up scooting and scrambling up the most interesting narrow and smooth chutes. We heard the song of the elusive canyon wren, too. Absolutely loved this experience! Was skeptical bc it is down a two mile gravel road, but totally worth it. There is nothing else around for miles, so the night sky is absolutely beautiful. There is enough space to feel like your party is alone, but the cantina and communal fire-pits invite interaction. There is a trail right on property and we had a great time exploring. We left before sunrise everyday and was able to enter BBNP in no time. Highly recommend

Great Location and Property

The propert owners thought of everything from bedding to places of local interests; gas, groceries, car mechanics. As well as the well thought out accommodations. We took advantage of the porch seating out back including the seating around the fire pit under the stars, I love that they are dog friendly lodging and cigar & bourbon friendly outside. We are planning a return in two years or sooner sans pups so we can really explore Big Bend National Park.

Great overall but not a big fan of that county road

We really enjoyed our stay at Ten Bits. Owners are awesome and very friendly. Our sink was draining slow and they came over quickly and took care of it. The cabin was very nice with rocking chairs in front and back. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. Our only complaint is that dusty washboard county road you use to come to the cabins and water pressure for the showers was pretty weak. The ambiance of the old western town is great. Thanks Sis and Cowboy for an enjoyable stay.

Property mgr gave good instructions on facilities for heating, cooling, fireplace operations and where to eat in the area. We really enjoyed our cabin. It was furnished with everything we needed. We would definitely stay there again.

We had a great stay. The room was as described and the property was beautiful. The view from the fire pit area was breathtaking and a great place for viewing the stars. It was a great home base for exploring the Big Bend area.

a wondeful tranquill place to stay

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Ten Bits Ranch, which boasts a delightful old Texas town atmosphere. The property manager provided clear instructions about both directions and check-in, making the arrival process seamless. My room was spacious, clean, and had a good shower facility. I especially loved having both a front and back porch—perfect for soaking up the scenic surroundings. Because the ranch is virtually in the middle of nowhere, it’s a fantastic spot for stargazing. I would have extended my stay if rooms had been available. A nice feature is the shared kitchen, where you can prepare breakfast or cook meals if you’re planning a longer visit. All in all, it was an excellent experience, and I would definitely choose Ten Bits Ranch again when visiting Big Bend National Park in the future.

One of our few go-tos

We have stayed at a couple of spaces at Ten Bits and this unit is our new fave! The vibe of the room is very comfortable-feeling and Spacious. and the great king size bed adds to the comfortability. the shower seems brand new and is very modern. We love the backside patio rocking chairs for stargazing at night! The full-size kitchen is shared but it is no problem at all. It is very big and is well-equipped with everything you would need for cooking and well-stocked with staples.

Better Than Expectations!

Truly want to thank you for opening up your property to be shared with others! The photos on VRBO do not do justice to your property and exceeded our expectations. We were amazed not only with the seclusion from traffic, noise, light, but the ease of enjoying Big Ben National Park from your location. I strongly recommend your property to anyone that does not want to be in the middle of a "dotted" landscape of other properties and is looking for the taste of Texas we all desire.

A Must Stay in West Texas!

If you are in the west Texas area, you must stay at this secluded getaway! The ranch was well kept and the rooms had every amenity you would need, including a good AC! We got to sit on rockers while watching the sun go down with little noise from other guests. Great job on making this ranch available to guests!

The wife and I needed to get away from the city and decompress. This was the perfect place for us. Ten Bits Ranch was perfectly located between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend State Park. The scenery out our back door was magnificent! For future guest, please note that Ten Bits Ranch is NOT a resort nor is it a hotel. Come prepared with food to cook and supplies to make your stay enjoyable. The nearest store is about 15 miles away, plus the driveway is 2.2 miles long on a bumpy, dusty caliche road, and be prepared for you auto to be dusty. No big deal. The weather was great for our stay, but as the summer pushes in i can see that it may not be so enjoyable, so pick the right time to go. We highly recommend a stay here.

Stellar - absolutely a must-do for a Texas experience

I'm from Texas. Been going to Big Bend for 40+ years. Long story short: this is an INCREDIBLE property and is an amazing little slice of Texas. The location is excellent. Just an hour outside of Alpine, and just over 20 minutes to stores / restaurants / and the Big Bend entry point, it could not be better. Yes, there is a dirt road you drive down for about two miles to get there. Any passenger car will be fine, just take your time. Yes, your car will get dusty. Yes, that is part of a real Big Bend experience. The setting is right out of a Western. There are NO visible structures or lights anywhere in any direction. You feel like you could have gone back 150 years. The rock formations are incredible and like some of the best beautiful areas in the national park. But it is YOUR park while you are staying there. The star gazing is a 10 out of 10. I have been all over the world, and I have never seen better. The first night we arrived, I could hardly believe the display of stars. Felt like I was floating in space (which we are, but it is rare to feel like you are truly IN space). The facilities are top notch. We stayed in the Blacksmith cabin, and it was super clean (zero bugs by the way). King bed is comfortable. TV has all the cable channels you need. Wifi and cell service was surprisingly good and solid. The fridge and microwave are convenient, and they supply all of the water you need. I am out of characters, but in summary: 10 out of 10 in all ways.

Peaceful and perfect

This was the perfect peaceful getaway for my love and I. Little did I know it would be the place he would propose. I couldn’t think of a better spot by the fire, under the stars with the extraordinary backdrop. This place is a gem.
