Lake St Clair Lodge

Lake St Clair Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"Our cabin was mostly clean apart from a few dust webs that only showed up when the lights were on. All the important surfaces, (benchtop/shower/toilet) were spotless. Bed was comfortable and warm. Lovely lass in the reception/cafe/dining area of the lodge pretty much doing everything as it's 'off season' so very quiet. Had a lovely chat with the owner, Michael, before dinner re his history at the lodge and his signature branded rum, gin, wine etc. The lodge is very welcoming with a warming fireplace, antiques and leather chairs adding to the alpine ambience. Well worth a stay in you are in this area."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Tarraleah?
The best area to stay in Tarraleah is within the Tarraleah Estate itself, as it offers a unique and comprehensive experience.Tarraleah Estate is a restored hydro-electric village in the Tasmanian Highlands. It's set across a large, private property, offering a range of accommodation from refurbished workers' cottages to more luxurious houses. The estate is designed to be a self-contained destination, with various dining options and activities available on-site. Think of it as a village dedicated to relaxation and country pursuits. For couples seeking a romantic getaway, the Luxury Cottages within the estate are an excellent choice. These are often tucked away, providing privacy and comfort with features like open fires and spa baths. You can enjoy strolls around the estate, fine dining, and activities such as wildlife spotting or simply relaxing in a peaceful setting.Families will find the various larger houses and cottages on the estate particularly suitable. These offer more space, often with multiple bedrooms and living areas, making them great for those travelling with children.
When is the best time to go to Tarraleah?
While Tarraleah is accessible year-round, the best time to visit for most travellers is during the warmer months, from November to April, to fully enjoy the outdoor activities and natural surroundings.During these months, the weather is generally milder and more predictable, with average temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This period is ideal for exploring the walking trails, enjoying the Highland rewilding tours, or simply relaxing by the lake. It's great for couples or solo travellers looking for a luxurious escape with opportunities for gentle outdoor pursuits. For those interested in fishing, particularly fly fishing, the spring and autumn months (October-November and March-April) are often considered prime. The cooler temperatures and active fish make for excellent angling conditions in the nearby rivers and lakes. This timing suits travellers who appreciate specific sporting activities as part of their high-end experience.Winter, from May to October, brings colder temperatures and the possibility of snow, which can create a dramatically different, yet beautiful, landscape. While some outdoor activities might be limited, it's a wonderful time for a cosy, secluded break, perhaps enjoying a good book by a fireplace or indulging in a spa treatment.
