Cozy Service Station in the heart of Staples

  • Feel at home when you stay in this newly remodeled old time service station turned studio. Located in the heart of Staples, Texas. Staples overlooks the San Marcos River to the east and is surrounded by broad fields to the north, west and south. It is about 11 miles from San Marcos, 15 miles north of Luling, 16 miles west of Lockhart, 20 miles east of Seguin and 22 miles northeast of New Braunfels.
    The space.
A little history of Staples Service Station. It is believed that the old service station was in service as early as 1922. It had changed owners a few times since then. The picture on the wall as you walk in is one of the only known pictures to exist. The picture was taken around 1940. The owner in the late 1940s to the 1970s was Mac Turner. At that time, it was Mac Turners Service Station. During the remodeling, the original business licenses were attached to the wall. The earliest being 1946. After Mac Turner retired, the service station was purchased by Ben and Edna Silva. Ben Silva and his daughter Adela Silva ran the service station thru the mid-1980s. After that, it was turned into a mexican restaurant and a beauty salon. It sat vacant from the early 2000s until it was remodeled in 2020 to what it is now.
    Other things to note
    Turning on backyard lights
    1. locate the power strip attached to the backyard fence next to the gate.
    2. flip switch on power strip to on position- lights will turn on. Turn off lights when the backyard is not in use. The lights along the fence are solar powered. The lights in front are automatic.

    Using the fire pit
    1. open grate to fire pit
    2. get a bag of ready to light charcoal from the brown deck box up against the fence
    3. put charcoal bag in fire pit
    4. tear an opening in the middle of the bag
    5. get wood logs from firewood holder next to the deck box, put wood on top of the charcoal bag

Weekend in Staples

The house was quaint and very clean. No queen size bed, though. Nice place to sit in the back but the lights on the neighboring building ruined our star gazing.

Norman Rockwell Weekend!

My husband and I traveled with my 82 year old Dad to visit his sister. This property is most unique! If you want the opposite of cookie-cutter.. this is the place. The unit sits in the center of Staples, TX, across from a shady park. The town consists of about 3 blocks and sits right on the river. The rental was everything described, except no hot tub (probably an error in the listing). The inside is very comfortable and clean. It had every detail you could ask for.. even snacks provided. The backyard is a dream. Great big fire pit with lots of comfy chairs. Firewood provided. A corn hole set was awaiting for us too. Beautiful evening under the stars. The owner was easy and friendly to work with. Any time I texted she responded right away. The price was reasonable and the experience of staying in 100-year-old service station was memorable. I hope to be back again someday!

Very nice and accommodating BnB inside and out. Close to the river that we went for. Easy check in. Host messaged be back quickly about questions that i had. We brought an extra comforter because someone said the bed was uncomfortable and we slept just fine. Will definitely rent again next time we go to the river!

This was a 4.9 star stay. We will stay here again. It is unique in its decor and history. - with the exception of drive through traffic, which was rare it was quiet. Everything u need is there to include extras. I’m he twin bed is a Trendle twin bed. The mattresses were comfortable on the twin, but not the pull out Full size sofa, bed. The sofa bed mattress was about an inch thick, and really could rocks not used at all. This was the only downside to the entire stay. If the mattresses were addressed, or even the size of the mattress addressed for a married couple. That would make a humongous difference. But we really truly enjoyed our stay the hostess. Fantastic place was fantastic. No real complaints.

I’m all for reviews and honesty. I’ll try and keep it simple….. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!!! The minute me and my family walked in I got goosebumps of how happy literally to my bones I was. The smile on my husband and daughter’s face was breathtaking. Paula was so kind and fast responding back. The place was so unbelievably pristine I mean like just remodel kind of nice but wasn’t that’s just how nice the decor and furniture and set up was. My daughter just kept saying I feel like I’m home mommy. We 100 percent will be staying here again as long as it’s available.
