#### Enjoy the fun vibe and intimacy of a theatre on the smaller side and study the refined and high-brow plays that grace its acclaimed stage.

Theater X is one of the main cultural hubs in the Ryogoku district, which is otherwise known for its sumo wrestling traditions. Here, you’ll find all types of performances, from artistic plays and cabaret to musical recitals. See local versions of the most famous works by playwrights including Samuel Beckett and Anton Checkov.

The pieces by local writers such as Ohashi Yasushi, Higuchi Ichiha and Taku Tsuka are also celebrated and re-created on this illustrious stage. Watch a play or recital and appreciate the excellent acoustics in this warm theater.

Preview the high-brow play in question beforehand to get a better understanding of the work. Admire the intricate lighting system and detailed costumes worn by the actors gracing the stage. The theater’s small size allows all seats a close view of the actors and creates a cozy and intimate setting. After certain performances, many local viewers stay behind to ask questions.

In the atrium outside the auditorium, study the various brochures, posters and leaflets about the theater’s other plays and their histories.

The theater is also an exhibition gallery, a conference complex and a community space and has many activities away from the stage. Take part in the Ryogoku Art Course or study acting in the Star Training workshops. Find out about traditional Japanese art forms in the kabuki workshop and practice mime in another class. Find Theater X in the Sumida ward of the northeastern corner of Tokyo. Take the train to the Ryogoku Station and walk south for a few blocks to reach the site. Make your way around the area to see other fascinating places such as the Ekoin Temple, the Ryogoku Kokugikan sports arena and the Kyu Yasuda Garden.

Great place, a lot of authentic food spots nearby, very clean neat rooms with a view on active intersection. We are beyond grateful to the staff that found and preserved things important to us that we forgot in the room. Overall it is an excellent spot for someone who wants peace and quiet in the room, succulent meals in 5 minutes walk and crazy night life of Akihabara in 10 minutes walk.

When we got there, they actually upgraded us to a suite. And man…it was AMAZING! Spacious, two nice beds and a long sofa, and a flat screen TV. The bathroom had two ports and a giant tub. We had four adults and one child (who is four) and we all just got fit into the suite. The location is close to subway stations, plenty of local restaurants and beautiful walks. When we come back to Ginza, we will be staying here again.
