Spruce Lodge
Summary:
Your montana mountain experience awaits in Spruce Lodge. 360 views of downtown and the ski hill. WiFi, hot tub, dog friendly and such an inviting space.
The Space:
Consider vacationing in the Beartooth Mountains just north of Yellowstone Park. The village of Red Lodge is the gateway to the northeast entrance to Yellowstone. The rustic and fully equipped Spruce Lodge could be your first stop on your holiday. Our lodge is centrally air conditioned and features every convenience of home. The home overlooks the entire village of Red Lodge from its enormous east facing deck. There are unobstructed western views of the nearby Red Lodge Ski Mountain. Beartooth Mountain views further command western vistas. Mt. Maurice and the valley to Yellowstone is visible to the south. It would be difficult to match the majestic mountain setting of this log home. The Lodge is located on 15 acres and is the only home on the western verge of the village of Red Lodge.
The property: There are living rooms on two levels of this three-story lodge. The space is ideal for an extended family, or several families combined. This home is welcoming and can deliver an authentic Montana lodging experience. There are so many entertainment options in the area: river floats, trail rides, mountain biking, endless hiking trails or rent a 4 passenger ATV. After a busy day the family can relax on the 600 sf deck or play a round of shoes as there is a horseshoe pit in the side yard. Wildlife is on the property year 'round. We commonly have a resident doe with new fawns munching on the lawn in the early summer.
The home is arranged as follows: The upper-level loft has two queen beds and twin day bed. This level has a full bath. The main level contains the fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and full appliance suite. There is an open great room, dining area, master bedroom suite, laundry room, half bath and ski room/reading nook on this level. The master bedroom has a king bed. Its bath has a walk-in shower. Additionally there is large closet and dressing room en suite. Wifi connectivity is strong throughout the house as is Verizon cell service. The lower level has a living room with a smart TV, foosball, lounging sofas flanked by three bedrooms and a full bath with separate shower and bathtub. One Bedroom has a king bed, the second bedroom has a king bed and a twin bed. The third bedroom has two sets of twin over queen bunkbeds. Access to the covered 6-person hot tub is available year-round. The lower patio and seasonal outdoor shower is from this lower level. To the many guests who have made this their summer headquarters for the past ten years we have good news. We’ve removed the spiral stair and there are now two conventional staircases connecting the three levels.
Please respect that this is a 3500 square foot home and not an event space. Large gatherings are neither encouraged nor permitted. We provide parking for up to six cars. Beyond that there is parking outside of the main gate. If you wish to add a motorhome to your reservation there is a 30 AMP RV circuit available at a competitive extra surcharge. If you have any questions concerning these options or guidelines, please contact us before booking.
Our location: The property overlooks the entire town and fronts the ~3 mile long Red Lodge hiking and biking trail which leads to the dog park and fairgrounds. We are dog friendly (2 Dogs). It is an easy 10-minute stroll on this same path to the airstrip and Rodeo of Champions fairgrounds to the west.
Spruce Lodge is located 7.4 miles from Red Lodge Mountain and just 0.2 miles from Highway 212 which is also known as the Beartooth National Scenic Hiway. This historic route features the stunning Beartooth Pass and is the gateway to the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
Guest Access:
Guest(s) have access to the entire home and all listed amenities. This home does have owner closet and a garage that is off limits to guests. The areas that are off limits are locked.
The Neighborhood:
Red Lodge, nestled in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains, is a wonderful place to visit if you are looking for family fun, a place to touch the wild, or just a chance to let your hair down. Whether you are wearing Birkenstocks or cowboy boots, you will find something to do here. (Although downtown is paved and we even have sidewalks, Jimmy Choos are probably not a great idea!)
In winter the road ends here. Downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, sledding and sleigh riding are just the short list of activities that you can do when visiting us.
In summer we revel in the Beartooth Pass opening. We are only 68 miles from Yellowstone Park, but plan on a good two hours` drive as the “Pass” is stunning in high mountain vistas, rocky cliffs, and jeweled lakes. The Custer National Forest is a haven for wildlife including elk, moose, mountain goats, big horn sheep, bears (black and grizzly), mountain lions and wolves. Golden marmots are often seen dashing across the trails. Golden and bald eagles often visit our area, as well as sandhill cranes and blue herons.
Getting Around:
Spruce Lodge has off street parking. Red Lodge has a taxi service and Uber for transportation in the area. Red Lodge does not have a commercial airport. Guest(s) can fly to area airports and drive to destination. Red Lodge, Montana is a rural community that does offer internet and cell service throughout most geographic areas but, some locations are completely void of any internet or cell service. In town and within a 3-5 mile radius of downtown you will enjoy solid cell signal but during times when our population increases due to events, celebration (such as the Fourth of July), or emergency situations such as a wildfire you will notice that these online and cellular services slow down and sometimes, they can slow down to the point where you have to wait to place a call. We can’t do anything to help in these situations, so we encourage people to enjoy the freedom of being “unplugged” and to be patient.

Property was perfectly located for our needs with a beautiful view. Plenty of room for all of us which included three families with kids. I would definitely stay here again. We wish we could have stayed longer.
It was a great home and we had a wonderful long weekend with family. It’s close to skiing and close to everything in town. It had enough space for all of us. We would stay here again!
Great Home and Location for Our Family Wedding Stay!
We had a fantastic stay at this large home! The location was ideal—close to everything we needed, yet still peaceful and relaxing. The house was spotless upon arrival, and the layout was perfect for our family, providing plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable. We truly enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay!
The hosts came over on Thanksgiving Day to light the pilot light for us on the gas fireplace! There was so much room for everyone and such a great location!
The property was phenomenal, the views, the wildlife. We all had plenty of space . The hot tub was an added feature to watch all the wildlife and beautiful views of town . Will definitely stay again if we are in the area.
A gorgeous location overlooking the town of Red Lodge. Our large family found the house to be well-stocked and spacious. Enough space for the kids to play on their own or be in a common area.
It was a great home! Clean, comfortable and the host was very responsive and helpful in the days leading up to our trip! Check in and Check out were a breeze!
We had a large group - adults, young kids and toddlers.
We had a large group - adults, young kids and toddlers. Aside from the stairway, which is a challenge with luggage or little kids, it's a great house. Emails were answered almost immediately. Great contact.
This large log home is a great base for ski weekend. The views are amazing. The location is great. There are plenty of comfortable beds and the hot tub feels great after a long day outside. The kitchen is spacious for gathering. Downsides (which are NOT enough to prevent us from wanting to stay at this house) include not having a television set up that really allows for a group to watch a movie or show together and the kitchen supplies. There seemed to be well over 50 glasses/mugs (maybe 100) but no ice cream scoop or decent pancake flipper and lots of cooking pans were miss mash and appeared decades old. One settled for a less than sharp knife for cutting up produce. That being said, we really enjoyed our stay at Spruce Lodge and always enjoy Red Lodge.
