Its been over 20 years since the LKs last visited so were looking forward to re-visiting. There are no charges to walk amongst the stones which make up the largest megalithic stone circle in the world, but there are separate charges for the museum and the Avebury Manor. The main car park is £4 for the day but not very big considering the volume of visitors Avebury sees, so if you visit we would suggest outside peak months. The purpose of the the stone circle is unknown but its believed to be a ritual complex, the site is a sacred site to the contemporary Pagans and if you are lucky on your visit you may see Druidic rites taking place. Attention ne pas confondre avec The George Hotel de la chaine Mercure en centre ville !!!!! Une catastrophe : hotel, chambre et salle de bain sale. A besoin d'être rénové. Nous avions 3 chambres dont 2 minuscules désuets avec vue sur parking. Bathroom tired Bath with shower head very poor head came off in hand broken does not screw together And water pressure none Plumbing needs updating I had to was what I could in sink as water trickle out. Bad night sleep due to bed and train track next door. Hotel did not offer breakfast or dinner so we had to find an alternative venue. Staff are very friendly including the restaurant staff. This hotel represents good value for money and is comfortable. You can hear the trains in certain parts of the hotel which is mentioned in the hotel description, we stay at the weekend so it wasn’t really an issue but during the week I would opt for a room at the other side of the hotel which is clear when booking a room.
