The best time to visit Puerto Lopez is typically between June and October, particularly if you're interested in whale watching and enjoying dry, sunny weather. This period coincides with the dry season on Ecuador's coast. You can expect clear skies, pleasant temperatures averaging around 26°C (79°F), and less humidity. This makes it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the natural beauty of the region. For travellers keen on marine wildlife, especially whale watching, this is the prime season. Humpback whales migrate to the warm waters off the coast of Puerto Lopez to breed and calve, offering spectacular viewing opportunities. Boat tours to Isla de la Plata, often called the "poor man's Galapagos," are also very popular during these months, allowing you to see blue-footed boobies and other unique bird species. If your priority isn't whale watching, the shoulder months of May and November can also be a good option. The weather is generally still pleasant, and there are fewer tourists, which can make for a more relaxed experience.
