The place seems to have had the bedrooms upgraded recently. Nice, roomy and comfortable. However, some “smaller details” niggled a bit… The rooms are not very noise proof - snoring on one side, conversations on the other, banging doors, very distracting and sleep preventing. Phone chargers inbuilt into head board did not work. Water pressure poor, affecting wash basin, shower and toilet needing re-flushed. Cooked breakfast not of best quality, and at 9am was not hot on being self-served from hot food holders. Staff really helpful and friendly. We usually use the sister hotel “The Waterside”, decided to try “The Gailes”, but would not return and will go back to The Waterside. Not terrible, pleasant, but the little things were niggly and mounted up - especially as it was a wedding anniversary night away.

This was my favorite stay in Scotland!!! The staff were absolutely fabulous!!! The hotel itself is five townhomes connected together. It was so cool winding my way to the restaurant. The food was Fabulous!! The drinks divine. I had a mini-suite on the corner with huge bay windows. I literally spun around in the room like Maria on the mountain in The Sound of Music! Not joking. The bathroom was cool, and it was the ONLY place I stayed of 7 that had wash cloths! My sister didn't care, but I do, so just saying. This historical hotel was in walking distance of a grocery store, the Botanical Gardens, and other restaurants if you choose. I can't say enough about this stay, especially the staff.
