8.2/10 Very good! (1,225 reviews)
Booked through Expedia. Expedia indicated the amount that would be charged upon check in. Grand Lodge booked more than what was indicated on the reservation. I tried calling the hotel, the number is out of service. I found another number to call. They would not answer, rather they texted me and told me to call that number (that was out of order). They indicated, via text, that they knew the number was out, but just keep trying. So I'm disputing the charges on my card, I made a good faith effort to address and there was one there to help. Check in and check out were horrible - one person is not enough people to support the crowds coming through. Couldn't get any of the hotel staff to give us another pool towel (2 were left in a room with 3 people). No air conditioning (which we knew), but sleeping with the windows open was impossible - sooo many trucks coming through the lot, deliveries, garabage, hotel guests.

8.6/10 Excellent! (41 reviews)
I booked through Hotels.com. When I called the resort, there was a glitch so they upgraded us to a condo (The Buttes #517). Staff don’t know what interiors look like - This is a rental but privately owned. Built in the 1970s & this unit needs major renovations. The carpets are stained & look filthy. The front door sticks/hard to open/close. There is a wood beam bolted to the living room floor (why????). No furniture on the balcony to enjoy stunning Crested Butte views, flooring missing/torn, a toilet/shower area that smells like sewer gas, a tub w chips & no safety mat. The bedrooms/1 bath are upstairs…a queen bed in one, twin beds in the other. There is NO cross ventilation - the twin bedroom has very high operable windows that you cannot reach to open. There is a circular, narrow stairway to the bedrooms that is dangerous, particularly w luggage, & for children. The bathrooms have low, old toilets - if you have knee problems, good luck. Rather than remodel, there is sloppy caulking everywhere to “repair” what should be replaced. I understand the ski in/ski out mentality, but people visit off season. The staff w Vail properties are powerless because it is a private owner. Maybe the owner will remodel when people won’t pay for something that should be maintained & updated. It was once a lovely condo….in 1974. Years of use and abuse has rendered it awful - even the handle on the microwave was broken off at the top. Don’t stay in that unit (517) until it has been remodeled.
