It is a short walk into Picton where there are eateries and bars. It was cheap and cheerful, and the gentleman on the desk was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I only made coffee in the kitchen but it looked well stocked. The room itself was a little shabby and could do with a deep clean (carpet a bit stained, cobwebs in the corners), but bedding, toilet, shower etc were all clean, and the bed was comfortable, and the room cooled down pleasantly in the evening after a warm day. This time it was looking very tired and grotty. Also I booked a 4 bed family suite. I did not realise this meant 1 small room with bunks and single bed. No bathroom. The whole place also smelled like cigarrette. I thought the breakfast was supposed to start at 7.30 but there was no one/nothing there then. The doors can not be locked which feels a bit uncomfortable as a female solo traveler. However it is a cheap option to stay in and you can park your car right in front of the hostel. And my bed's mattress was lumpy and well past the point where it needed to be replaced. The sheets were clean, though, even if not much else was.
