Comfort Inn Pikeville

"No breakfast"

Gateway To The Breaks Motel

10/10 Excellent

"The staff were friendly and professional. Karl provided a map and information regarding places to visit at Breaks Interstate Park, and Melanie recommended restaurants and places to see on my way home. The bottled spring water in my room was a very nice touch! It was my first experience in the area and they made it great! Thank you!"

Summer House by LC's Lodging. 2BR 1.5Bath Close to many Hatfield McCoy Trails!

10/10 Excellent

"This was our 2nd time staying at Coty and Logan’s. It is always clean and in the perfect location. Anytime we have had a question they are always quick to respond. Our pups love it too because they have a nice fenced-in yard and they always leave them surprises. Thank you both for another wonderful stay!"

Creekside Lodge–Trailside Stay w/Firepit, Sleeps 10

10/10 Excellent

"Host was always very responsive! Had a couple minor things come up while there but they responded and fixed the issues right away. Kitchen tools/cookware could use some updating but we managed with what was there. Location was perfect for riding trails. Plenty of parking, we fit 3 trucks and trailers in and still had room. We enjoyed sitting on the comfy furniture on the porch and hanging out in the evening. Would stay here again."

8/10 Good

"I gave a few items 4 out of 5 stars based on the following: Most people go to the area for trail riding. With that in mind, only street parking was available for trailers. My group was pushing the limit for size of the house with 3 trailers for 5 machines. The other issue was that we experienced several water leaks throughout the house due to heavy rains. The extent of the leaks told us that these were not new but likely present for a little while. While noticing the leaks, a vent hanging from the ceiling over a bed, looking as though it could fall at any minute was noticed. The owner was notified, and they acknowledged. However, no compensation or resolution was offered. Luckily none of the water leaks were directly over anyone's bed. With that said, interaction with the owner was pleasant. The house was very acceptably clean, and our group was very satisfied and comfortable with all the other features this house offered. It was a lot of decent privacy for a group of 10 people. I would rent it again, but I do hope the roof leak issues are resolved."

Comfort Inn & Suites Grundy

8/10 Good

"The breakfast was fantastic! Especially loved the apple cinnamon waffles! The stay all great except the really strong musty smell. I know it has been remodeled and looks great, but that smell is pretty strong in the halls and rooms. We've stayed here several times. And while it might havr had a smell of an older hotel, it was never really unpleasant. This time it was. We come through from time to time, and will likely stay again, but hopefully they can figure out the source of the musty odor!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Phelps?

The best area to stay in Phelps, Kentucky, is near the Phelps High School area, as it offers the most convenient access to local amenities and the main road.

This area, located along Route 319, is the central point of the community. You'll find the Phelps High School as a prominent landmark, and nearby are the few local shops and eateries available. It's the most developed part of Phelps, providing a practical base for exploring the surrounding natural beauty.

For families, staying in this central area is particularly suitable. It offers the closest proximity to any local services you might need, such as grocery stores or casual dining options, making day-to-day logistics simpler. Being near the high school means you're at the heart of the community, which can be reassuring when travelling with children.

Solo travellers will also find this area to be the most practical choice. It provides the easiest access to the main roads for exploring the Appalachian Mountains and nearby attractions, and it's where you'll find the limited local conveniences.

When is the best time to go to Phelps?

The best time to go to Phelps, Kentucky, is during the spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) months. These seasons offer the most pleasant weather conditions for exploring the area.

Spring brings mild temperatures, typically ranging from 10°C to 20°C, and the landscape is lush with new growth. It's a great time for outdoor activities like hiking and fishing. You'll find the local flora in full bloom, making for particularly scenic views in the surrounding Appalachian foothills.

Autumn also provides comfortable temperatures, usually between 10°C and 22°C, with lower humidity than the summer. The main draw during this period is the spectacular display of fall foliage, as the hillsides transform into a mosaic of reds, oranges, and yellows. This makes it an ideal time for scenic drives and enjoying the natural beauty of the region.

While summer (June to August) can be warm and humid, with temperatures often exceeding 25°C, it's still a good option for those who enjoy warmer weather and want to take advantage of longer daylight hours.
