Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ohanes?
The best area to stay in Ohanes is within the village centre itself, particularly around the Plaza de la Constitución and along the main streets that branch off it.

This central part of Ohanes is where you'll find the core of the village's amenities. It's characterised by traditional Andalusian architecture, with whitewashed houses, narrow winding streets, and small squares. The Parish Church of the Immaculate Conception is a prominent landmark here, and you'll find local shops, a few eateries, and the town hall concentrated in this area. It's very walkable, allowing you to easily explore the village on foot.

For couples seeking a peaceful retreat, staying in the village centre is ideal. You can enjoy quiet evenings, stroll through the historic streets, and experience authentic village life. It's a great base for exploring the surrounding Sierra Nevada Natural Park, with many walking trails accessible directly from the village.

Families will also find the village centre a good fit. The compact nature of the village means everything is within easy reach, and children can enjoy the open spaces of the plazas.
When is the best time to go to Ohanes?
The best time to go to Ohanes is during spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) for pleasant weather and outdoor activities.

Spring in Ohanes brings mild temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for hiking and exploring the Sierra Nevada foothills. The countryside is lush and green, and almond blossoms add a beautiful touch to the landscape. This season is great for couples who enjoy scenic walks and discovering local flora.

Autumn offers similarly agreeable weather, with temperatures generally between 18°C and 28°C. The grape harvest season in September adds a unique local experience, with opportunities to see the traditional winemaking process. This period is great for travellers interested in local culture and culinary experiences, as many local restaurants feature seasonal dishes.

While summer (July and August) is hot, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, it's a good time for those who enjoy the heat and want to spend time by a pool or exploring the higher, cooler elevations of the Sierra Nevada.
