"I arrived there and the hotel owner told me that he never received my Expedia reservation and payment and asked me to pay cash. So I did. This means that I paid twice but I am not complaining as the price was so low. The hotel room was super basic with no running water and no sink. Very friendly and helpful owner."

"This is an amazing hidden gem! The name "tents" underdescribes the facilities: these are beautiful cabins that would put some hotels to shame. And the cabins have private showers and bathrooms. The facility also has a very small pool. Sandi, the owner, is caring, the food is very good, and the tours in the Park with the Park rangers are informative and a great experience. I saw a lot of animals, including elefants, monkeys, antilopes and crocodiles, but I understand that I was lucky and it depends on the season. The Park is huge and outside of the dry season the animals hide more. Getting there takes some time due to the condition of the main streets. But there is major road construction and within a year it probably should be much faster to get there."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Nkhotakota?
The best area to stay in Nkhotakota is along the lakeshore, particularly within and around the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve.

This area offers unparalleled access to Lake Malawi and the wildlife reserve, providing a blend of natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor activities. The lodges are typically set amidst natural surroundings, offering a tranquil escape.

For couples and anyone looking for a relaxing and immersive nature experience, staying in a lodge directly on the lakeshore or within the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve is ideal. You'll wake up to the sounds of nature, often with views of the lake or the reserve's bushland.
When is the best time to go to Nkhotakota?
The best time to visit Nkhotakota is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.

During these months, the weather is generally sunny and pleasant, with lower humidity and minimal rainfall. This makes it ideal for outdoor activities and wildlife viewing, especially in the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve where animals congregate around water sources, making them easier to spot.

For those interested in wildlife safaris, September and October are particularly good as the vegetation is sparser, further improving visibility. The cooler temperatures in May, June, and July also make for very comfortable touring conditions.

Travellers looking for a relaxed, comfortable trip will appreciate these months.
