Promenaden Hotel
Gera
8.4 out of 10, Very good, (23 reviews)
"This is a beautiful old hotel property. It has great bones and the rooms have been updated and modernized nicely. That said, there are some very quirky aspects to the property. Firstly, there is no reception - just an automated machine that provides a key card. This means that there is no one to ask about parking, amenities etc. The second thing is that no one speaks English at all. The cleaning staff was very sweet but could not speak a word. We had to use Google Translate for all...

"The spa, gym, and lake views are excellent. The hotel has a very 90's feel and no room service (this was a bummer as we had a lake view room and wanted to stay in and relax). The beirgarten by the water has excellent food, although it closes at 930pm (as does the only restaurant on site (a buffet). The place was comfortable for 1 dayx the lake location and sauna were exactly what we wanted"

Top Neugernsdorf Hotel Reviews

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful hotel set in nice grounds. The main building used to be a palace. We were allocated a room in the adjoining building. When we first arrived, we were told that they were full, despite us having booked in advance. But this was soon sorted out. Our room was clean and tidy and spacious. It had a slanted ceiling right above the bed, so we had to be careful getting in and out. The wifi was not very strong in the room but luckily we did not really need it for anything special. The restaurant offered a buffet or the a la carte menu. The buffet looked a bit lacking so we chose the menu and the food was excellent. We can highly recommend the pork schnitzel and the salmon. Parking free and on site. All in all, a lovely place to stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Neugernsdorf?
The best area to stay in Neugernsdorf, Thuringia, is the town centre, particularly around the Marktstraße and Hauptstraße junction.

This central area is the heart of Neugernsdorf and offers the most convenience and access to local amenities. You'll find the town's main square, the Rathaus (Town Hall), and several traditional German guesthouses and restaurants within a short stroll. It's a compact and pedestrian-friendly area, making it easy to explore on foot.

For couples looking for a relaxing getaway, staying in the town centre provides easy access to local eateries and shops for a pleasant evening. You can enjoy a leisurely walk to the local bakery in the morning or visit the historic St. Anne's Church, which is just off Marktstraße.

Solo travellers will also appreciate the town centre's practicality. It offers a good base for exploring the surrounding Thuringian countryside, with local bus connections often departing from stops near the Marktstraße.
When is the best time to go to Neugernsdorf?
The best time to visit Neugernsdorf is during the late spring (May to early June) and late summer/early autumn (September to early October) months for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

During late spring, the Thuringian countryside around Neugernsdorf comes alive with blooming flowers and lush greenery. The temperatures are mild and comfortable, making it ideal for exploring the local walking and cycling paths. This period is superb for couples or solo travellers who enjoy outdoor activities and scenic landscapes without the peak summer rush.

Late summer and early autumn also offer excellent conditions. September and early October bring cooler, crisp air, often with clear skies, and the surrounding forests begin to display beautiful autumn colours. This is a fantastic time for those interested in cultural excursions to nearby towns like Gera or Weimar, as the weather is still agreeable for sightseeing, and local harvest festivals might be taking place.
