After not hearing anything from the owner two days before check-in I reached out for code for front door, any other details. The owner quickly responded saying they had a tree down, power was out and had to cancel the rental. What??? We drove by the following morning , power was on garbage cans in driveway, everything looked fine. Went there two days later and a car was in driveway with AL plates lights on, everything fine. Clearly he rented it to someone else or had friends/family stay there. In the meantime I spent hours with VRBO customer service who put us in a crappy hotel for two days and then a house for the rest of the week that was just ok and cost more! Huge hassle to get the difference in costs refunded. Bottom line I think this owner was dishonest and if there was a problem it was minor and was clearly resolved in time for someone else to stay there, probably for more money.
