We stayed in the house that is situated at the end of the land. Therefore it was very quit and we could enjoy the silence at the fullest. The breakfast that is served by sr Matias (who is famous for his cheese) is one of the best we have ever had in our lives . It was served with 6 different kind of cheeses that were made by sr Matias...

Hotel Grão Vasco - Historic Hotel

8/10 Good

"Breakfast was good very helpful cheerful staff. Front desk a little off putting. Cool vinyl record display"

Pousada de Viseu

10/10 Excellent

"All round excellence. Perfectly placed to explore the region. Superb hotel. The architecture of the place (and the scale) just blew us away. Trip type - Holiday Travel group - Couple Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Nearby activities: Plenty to see & do in town, and the hotel is centrally placed for drives in the beautiful coutryside (although Viseu's string of roundabouts to get to the main IC can get a bit tiresome) Safety: Our experience of everyone we have met has been great. In general, people are very kind & friendly, welcoming to strangers, with very helpful gestures - smiles and great consideration for us & our poor Portugese language skills! Walkability: Uneven cobbled pavements need more care. All we wanted to do was nearby however, and the weather [October] was absolutely perfect - slippy cobbles could be another story. Food and drinks: Fantastic local traditional food, pastries, coffee & fine wines from the region - we have enjoyed exploring regional cuisine very much. Noteworthy details The lovely lady on night reception was an absolute font of knowledge of things to do in and around Viseu - really made our visit magical. Obrigado! The parking at the hotel was reasonable and secure. Hotel highlights Luxury, Great view, Quiet, Great value"

Hotel Rural Quinta da Conchada

10/10 Excellent

"Super séjour. Tellement un bel endroit. Le coucher de soleil sur le fleuve était juste trop beau. J'y séjournerais a nouveau. Le restaurant était délicieux, les portions parfaites. La terrasse sublime. Seul petit bémol pour la chambre 108, réparer le rideau qui ne ferme pas serait un atout et le drain de la douche ne s'écoule pas très bien. Sinon tout était parfait 😍. Personnel souriant et accueillant. Merci pour tout."

Montebelo Viseu Congress Hotel & Spa

8/10 Good

"Rooms were excellent and spacious. Very clean, smart TV, and tea and coffee available. No beer in the mini bar though? Amenities all looked good, made us wear swimming caps to just go in the pool? Breakfast wasn’t great - limited choices and very busy. All in all a good stay and the rooms are great!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Midões?

The best area to stay in Midões is the village centre itself, offering a convenient and authentic experience.

The village centre of Midões is quite compact, with its main attractions clustered around the central square, Largo da Igreja. Here, you'll find the impressive Igreja Matriz de Midões and the historic Solar do Casal. The streets are narrow and winding, typical of a traditional Portuguese village, and you'll find a few local shops and cafes within easy walking distance.

For travellers seeking a quiet retreat and a taste of local life, staying within the village centre is ideal. You'll be able to enjoy leisurely strolls, interact with locals, and easily access the village's cultural landmarks. It's superb for those who appreciate a slower pace and want to experience the genuine charm of the region.

Families looking for a relaxed holiday will also find the village centre appealing. With its pedestrian-friendly layout and lack of bustling traffic, children can explore freely.

When is the best time to go to Midões?

The best time to visit Midões is during the spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

You'll find temperatures comfortable for outdoor activities like hiking or visiting local vineyards without the intense heat of summer. This period also avoids the peak tourist season, meaning you can enjoy a more relaxed experience.

Couples looking for a romantic and tranquil escape will particularly appreciate these shoulder seasons. You can enjoy strolls through the countryside, intimate meals at local restaurants, and peaceful moments by the Mondego River without the bustle of the high season.

For travellers interested in local culture and traditions, late spring often features various village festivals and events celebrating the region's heritage.
