Lillooet, BC, is one of the southernmost communities in North America where indigenous people form the majority. Considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited locations on the continent, the area is reckoned by archaeologists to have been inhabited for several thousand years. (September 2019)

The Chinese arrived in Lillooet, BC, in the late 1800s and early 1900s and prospected for gold on the Fraser River by washing the sand and gravel from the rocks. Once washed and inspected the Chinese would neatly build up a pile of washed rocks on the nearby shore of the mighty river. The foreground of the pic shows the remnants of such rock piles. Sometimes the piles of rocks would be stacked in rows and reach up to 12 feet high. (September 2019) #History
