They are a string of tropical islands stretching about 120 miles south / southwest, forming the southernmost part of the continental United States. The Calusa Indians inhabited these islands over 6,000 years ago. In the early 1500’s the conquistador, Ponce De Leon sailed these waters and nearly wiped out the tribe. Famous pirates such as Edward Teach better known as Blackbeard and Jimmy Buffett frequented the Islands regularly. Some believe a pirate treasure is buried on one of the over 1700 islands. In the early 1900’s, the Florida Keys were only accessible by boat. This changed with the completion of the Henry Flagler Overseas Railway in 1912\. In 1935, a hurricane destroyed Flagler’s Overseas Railway, and a decision was made to convert the railway into an automobile roadway. U.S. Highway 1, also known as the Overseas Highway, runs from Miami to Key West. One of our most famous residents, Ernest Hemingway, chose to call the Florida Keys home. He was a renowned author and in 1953 won a Pulitzer Prize for, The Old Man and the Sea. Hemingway was instrumental in putting the keys on the map as he often wrote about his adventures in his writings. The Florida Keys are commonly referred to as the “Diving Capital of the World.” The expansive Florida reef is the only living coral reef in North America, and the third largest coral reef in the world. The diverse marine life, along with some spectacular shipwrecks, is the reason Key Largo is a world class dive destination. Not to be outdone, the Florida Keys are also world renowned for fishing, due to the number of world records, and the number of different species just off our shores. Many consider the Keys to also be the “Sport fishing Capital of the World.” The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary protects approximately 2,900 square nautical miles of coastal and ocean waters from the estuarine waters of south Florida to the Dry Tortugas National Park. Within the boundaries of the sanctuary, lie spectacular, unique, and nationally significant marine resources including North America's only coral barrier reef, extensive seagrass beds, mangrove-fringed islands, and more than 6,000 species of marine life. The sanctuary also protects pieces of our nation’s history such as shipwrecks and other archeological treasures. Visitors to the sanctuary are encouraged to take advantage of the many recreational activities this amazing ecosystem has to offer, including world-class diving, swimming, snorkeling, and fishing. The Mariner's Club is a unique, resort style property that allows its owners to rent their units to guests and extend their club benefits. Of coarse we are biased but we think our oceanfront condo has the best location in the entire community. We are on the first floor, which means you can walk right out the backdoor to one of the best pools in all of the keys. We are the closest unit in the entire community to the ocean. When you're in the living room it feels like you are standing in the ocean. The marina and community center are right out our front door as well as a second pool, grotto and game room. We recently updated the property with a new 86" LG smart TV in the living room, 55" TV's in the bedrooms, a 42" TV with playstation 4 in the kids room, a Bose indoor / outdoor stereo system and a life size wall scrabble board game. The condo is perfect for 2 families with kids. Both master bedrooms have private on suites. The kids room, is actually a hidden behind a book case and has a Harry Potter theme. There is a double and two twins in the kids room. Be sure to surprise your kids with the hidden door and see if they can find it upon arrival. The sleeper sofa in the living room can also accommodate two more adults or kids. The Club is perfectly located on the oceanside of the island close to the reefs which provide world renowned snorkeling, diving, and fishing. Just past our 200’ pier, you will find Molasses Reef, recently rated “The most popular dive reef in North America”. The property is very clean, well stocked and has a bunch of extra little touches that make the experience that much better. The condo and Mariners Club was a great place for our family. The condo itself was stocked with sooo many extras. It made packing/travel much easier. Pickle ball and basketball courts were very nice along with an amazing pool area. We also greatly enjoyed the game room in the club house. I can’t say enough about how pleased we were with this unit. We stayed here over Christmas ‘23 and had a great family holiday in our home away from home. These owners have thought of literally EVERYTHING you could ever want here. In fact, when I asked if the unit had a large stockpot for us to do a low country boil on Christmas Eve, the owner went out and purchased one and had it waiting for us with a bow on it! Erick was quick with responses and suggestions, the house had all the accommodations and amenities down to shampoo and conditioner. The views were gorgeous of the water and had a quick private walk to the pool area. We also loved the wall size Scrabble board, the gym area was well equipped on the property and if if you like to play Tennis the host had racquets for the tennis courts. This condo made our vacation perfect! Erick was great with local recommendations and was always reachable with any questions. Everything you could need is already at the unit- toiletries, pool toys, highchairs, etc. Families with children of any age will enjoy this unit. Our kids loved the Harry Potter room and every bed was extremely comfortable. No detail has been ignored in this unit with high end fixtures throughout. The pool is wonderful and was never crowded. Our host Erik was the best one we have ever encountered in our many rentals we have used. He is so in tune to the needs of the traveler who has to fly to their vacation. So much is provided for a week long trip. We had to only buy food. The items needed to live in this home were provided in abundance. It is a beautiful home with a wonderful view. The resort is full of things to do. The pools were warm and so relaxing. In the condo there are tennis racquets, pickleball racquets, beach accessories, some outdoor toys for kids, fishing poles and a huge scrabble board. We had the best vacation in the Keys and mostly because of the place we had to call home for a week. Next trip to the Keys we will be staying here for sure. ##### Carol C. Our stay at the Mariner's Club exceeded our expectations in every way. From the outset, our communication with Erick was exceptional. He went above and beyond by providing us with detailed instructions well in advance of our arrival, then he followed up with us through email, texts, and even a personal phone call in the week leading up to our stay to ensure all of our questions were answered. The registered with security before we arrived and they were super friendly and helpful throughout our entire stay. Traveling with a one-year-old can often be a logistical challenge, so we were happy to have a pack-n-play and high-chair readily available, which greatly helped us save space in our vehicles. Visiting in October meant that there weren't many other people on the property which meant we almost had the pool to ourselves. We all also loved the breathtaking sunrise view from the deck to start our days. The Mariner's Club is strategically located, making it easy to access various attractions, restaurants, and SCUBA diving centers. We wholeheartedly recommend Erick's condo to anyone seeking a memorable vacation experience, and we're looking forward to the opportunity to return. ##### Bradford K.
