Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Kampung Ulu?
The best area to stay in Kampung Ulu is the town centre, particularly around Jalan Raya and Jalan Besar.

This area is the heart of Kampung Ulu, offering the most convenience for travellers. It's a compact and walkable district where you'll find most of the local eateries, shops, and essential services. Jalan Raya is the main thoroughfare, bustling with activity during the day, while Jalan Besar runs parallel to it, offering a slightly quieter experience. The local market, a key landmark, is also located here.

Couples looking for a comfortable and convenient base will appreciate staying in the town centre. It provides easy access to local dining experiences, from traditional hawker stalls to small restaurants, superb for exploring local flavours together. You're also well-placed for visiting the nearby historic sites, many of which are a short drive away.

Solo travellers will also find the town centre to be an excellent choice. Its central location means everything you need is within walking distance, and there's a good selection of guesthouses and smaller hotels that cater to individual travellers.
When is the best time to go to Kampung Ulu?
The best times to visit Kampung Ulu are during the dry season, specifically from December to February and June to August, when the weather is most favourable for outdoor activities.

The dry seasons offer plenty of sunshine and lower humidity, making it comfortable to explore the area's natural beauty. You can enjoy hiking through the lush rainforests, visiting waterfalls, or taking boat trips along the rivers without the interruption of heavy rainfall. This period is ideal for couples and families who want to make the most of their time outdoors.

Between March and May, and again from September to November, Kampung Ulu experiences its monsoon season. While the rainforest is particularly verdant during these months, you can expect frequent, heavy downpours. Travellers who enjoy a quieter experience and don't mind the rain might find this a good time to visit, as there are fewer tourists and the waterfalls are at their most impressive.
