"When is a resort not a resort? In this case, when it doesn't provide any facilities outside the room. There's a rooftop bar in summer but nothing at other times. Staff were pleasant but breakfast was limited and when we asked for a second cup of coffee we had to pay for it. The room is large but was taken up by 4 double futons and a massive hanging screen for projecting TV/video. We felt it was intended for a large group who wanted to watch DVDs all day. The cost would have been fine split 8...

"Clean and comfortable room. So glad I booked a room with castle view. We had the Superior Twin Room, 23m2\. The view was just amazing! And we got to see the castle at different times of the day. The hotel offers welcome drinks. Not just standard drinks but hot chocolate, too! Thank you! The breakfast room also has view of the castle! So nice!! Buffet breakfast has standard items plus dishes using local ingredients (or famous local dishes?) For example, miso soup with pork and pumpkin, rice mixed with squid, Swiss roll with sweet potato, apple caramel cake and mochi with red bean. No other hotel we stayed in had these. Compliments to the chefs! On top of that, there was a Kyushu Food Festival on at the Fukuyama Castle grounds the weekend we were there. We got to experience that. So lucky. Joining in to do morning exercises before sunrise in front of the castle was another memorable experience!! "

"I really appreciated the hospitality of the staff, and the small touches like the ginger tea and jelly they leave for you in the room. I had a wide desk and comfortable chair, and a large twin bed with a very comfortable duvet. The bathroom has modern decor and the hairdryer is almost completely silent. "After a couple of days wending my way from Onomichi to Imabari on the Shimanami Kaido the Shimanami Prime Hotel Imabari proved to be a great choice for my final night in the Seto Inland Sea area. It’s conveniently located just a short walk from the Imabari train station where both the regular bike rental station and the Giant store are located, and where I had to board the highway bus back to Fukuyama the next morning. Check-in was easy and once I did the staff informed me my bags had been dropped off already by Sagawa transport - which was great since that let me freshen up before dinner. Imabari offers plenty of dining options but I had to sample the local “buta-niku” specialty rice bowl and one of the best places in town happens to be near the Prime Hotel. Called Hakurakuten, it’s only a five minute walk away and just as someone had described to me the rice bowl and the karaage on the side were absolutely excellent. Soaking in the hotel’s onsen was a great way to unwind after dinner before turning in. The room itself was typical Japanese business hotel – small but functional. Just right for one night though with the small amount of luggage I had brought. The morning breakfast buffet was another highlight with plenty of choices and very delicious food. After filling up I reluctantly had to bid goodbye to this lovely area of Japan and had to bid goodbye to this lovely area of Japan and head back to Tokyo but I’ve already vowed to return for a longer visit in the future. "
