About this property
Treehouse on a Coffee Farm with Ocean View
Enjoy the authentic Costa Rican experience away from the tourist traps in a treehouse with beautiful natural views! The property is located in Atenas, just 45 minutes from San José International Airport, surrounded by rolling green hills and coffee farms and populated with plenty of wildlife. From our property, you can take in the views right from the pool, enjoy the best climate in the world, and spot a variety of animals.
The space
The treehouse has a loft bedroom with a full-sized bed which sleeps two, a bathroom with a shower, and a breakfast bar including a refrigerator and a Nostalgia Retro 3-in-1 Electric Breakfast Station, which includes a coffee maker, toaster oven, and griddle, microwave, and electric frying pan. Upon arrival, you will find the breakfast bar stocked with coffee, as well as fresh eggs, bread, and fruit for breakfast, so you can enjoy the delights of Costa Rica from the comfort of your tropical home-away-from-home.
There is also a porch, where you can take in gorgeous views of the mountains, ocean, rolling hills, and coffee plants, as well as terrific sunsets. In addition to the town of Atenas boasting the title of World’s Best Climate according to National Geographic, our property was recently named by a local TV anchor as “the best place in all of Costa Rica to watch the sunset”. You also have the opportunity to spot a variety of animals, including white-faced monkeys, red foxes, iguanas, and several species of bird such as toucans, grey-headed chachalacas, motmots, flycatchers, caracaras, tanagers, and hummingbirds.
Hosts Margarita and Ralph live just down the road, where you will have full access to our pool and jacuzzi. Hosts Margarita and Ralph live just up the road, where you will have full access to our pool as well as the opportunity to meet our multi-age, bilingual family
If your stay in the treehouse is just the beginning of your Costa Rican adventure, we are more than happy to recommend and arrange a taxi from the airport. We are also happy to recommend favorite restaurants and attractions, and we even have a car available to rent for $50/day for local excursions. Furthermore, we offer a unique, hands-on coffee experience from mid-November to the end of December, where guests are invited to join in the coffee-making process, from berry picking to coffee tasting, all while learning what goes into an excellent cup of coffee. If you're coming to Costa Rica to relax, we also have massage treatments available on our property. Other things to note
Atenas is ideally located in the hills of San Jose, only an hour from the bustling city and just 45 minutes from San Jose International Airport. Although the town has become a favorite of North American expats, it retains authentic Costa Rican charm and offers a glimpse into the lives of locals.
Popular destinations from Atenas include the municipal forest, which is just across the street, Las Minas natural waterfalls and swimming pools, the Pacific ocean, and the Poas Volcano.
Just 90 minutes in one direction is the beach town of Jaco, where you can surf, rent ATVs, relax on the beach, or check out the local bars. On the way there, you will cross the famous crocodile bridge, and you can stop off for Jose's Crocodile River Tour, which is truly unlike any other. Thrill seekers can also zipline near Jaco.
In the other direction, a 90 minute drive will take you to Poas Volcano National Park. On the way, you can visit Hacienda Alsacia, a coffee farm owned by Starbucks, as well as the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, where you can visit the jungle zoo before enjoying a waterfall hike.
Costa Rica has two seasons: the rainy season and the dry season! Although we get plenty of rain from May to December, it doesn’t rain all the time and it is always warm (even the rain is warm!). Our typical rainy season days are generally clear and sunny in the morning, clouding up in mid-morning and raining in the afternoon. The temperatures year around are lovely, with a low of 65 and a high of 85 F degrees.

The hosts were 110% and went over and above! They treated us as family and we felt very appreciated and very well cared for in every aspect. The cabin was spotless and every little detail was looked after. We recommend that if your in Costa Rica you take the time to stay at this unique treehouse it is well priced and an absolute treasure!!
My stay at the treehouse was absolutely magical. The hosts, Margarita and Ralph, were phenomenal. Pictures do no justice for how beautiful the grounds surrounding the treehouse are. The treehouse itself is both stunning and comfortable, containing every amenity you could need. I will 100% be back.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. What an amazing magical place! The hosts are the sweetest in the world and made us feel like family. I got a tour of their garden and it was magical! I learned so much and I would come back here any time I could. Honestly, the best Vrbo/host etc experience I’ve ever had and I am so glad to have met them. Also the best sunsets you’ll ever see, and please check out the La casita restaurant it’s close and to die for!
