The best area to stay in Jenaro Herrera is directly within the main town itself, or at one of the lodges located slightly outside on the banks of the Ucayali River.Jenaro Herrera is a small, remote town, and its centre is compact and easily navigable on foot. The town is primarily built along a few main streets that run parallel to the Ucayali River. You'll find the local market, a few small shops, and basic eateries here. The main advantage of staying in the town is the convenience of being close to any local amenities and the community. For those seeking a more secluded experience and direct access to nature, the lodges situated just outside the town, often a short boat ride away, are an excellent choice. These lodges are typically built to blend with the natural surroundings, offering a chance to observe the river life and jungle flora and fauna up close. They often provide organised excursions into the surrounding rainforest and along the river.

The best time to go to Jenaro Herrera is during the dry season, which typically runs from May to October.During these months, you'll experience lower rainfall and more consistent sunshine, making it ideal for exploring the Amazon rainforest and its waterways. The river levels are generally lower, which can make certain trails more accessible and wildlife viewing on riverbanks more frequent. This period is particularly good for outdoor activities like jungle treks, piranha fishing, and boat excursions. While the wet season (November to April) brings higher river levels and more humidity, it can also offer a different perspective with lush vegetation and easier navigation for larger boats into smaller tributaries.
