"Very spacious, lovely modern decor, so you get both a lovely 5 star stay but being able to enjoy the old town once you step out. Staff are friendly, able to tell you what are open for the night on a map (as it was a public holiday when we went). The breakfast is also worth it (just 1000yen pp?), not the type with luxurious ingredients but it was all nicely laid out and a very comfy cafe which you can easily spend half a morning there."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ikata?
The best area to stay in Ikata is generally around the town centre, particularly near the Seto Wind Hill Park, as it offers the most convenient access to local attractions and amenities.

This area is the heart of Ikata and provides straightforward access to the town's main features. You'll find a selection of local eateries and shops within a short distance, and the Seto Wind Hill Park, with its distinctive wind turbines, is easily reachable for scenic views across the Seto Inland Sea. The main roads through Ikata also converge here, making it a practical base for exploring the wider peninsula.

Couples looking for a relaxing getaway will appreciate staying in this central area. It's well-suited for enjoying leisurely strolls, visiting the local lighthouse, and taking in the coastal scenery without needing to travel far. The proximity to viewpoints offers lovely opportunities for photos and quiet moments together.

For travellers interested in local culture and the unique geography of the Sadamisaki Peninsula, staying near the town centre is ideal. You're well-placed to visit the local history museum or embark on drives further along the peninsula to reach the very tip, where you can see Kyushu on a clear day.
When is the best time to go to Ikata?
The best time to visit Ikata is during the spring (late March to early May) and autumn (late September to early November) months.

Spring offers mild temperatures, making it ideal for outdoor activities like cycling along the Setouchi Shimanami Kaido or exploring the local citrus groves. The cherry blossoms, typically blooming in late March to early April, add a beautiful touch to the landscape, especially around the Ikata Central Hospital Park.

Autumn also provides pleasant weather, superb for hiking the trails around the Sadamisaki Peninsula. The cooler temperatures are comfortable for exploring the Ikata Power Museum and enjoying the scenic coastal drives. This season often brings vibrant foliage and is a good time for those interested in the local harvest festivals, particularly related to the region's famous mikan oranges.
