Quite simply brilliant!
What an amazing experience it was staying at The Olde Forge Hotel this past weekend. The hotel offered a superb base for our weekend plans, but it was the staff that really stood out as friendly, welcoming and professional throughout. First impressions were strong as upon opening the front door to go and check in, we were greeted by a bowl of chocolate limes at reception, confirming (at least to my mind) the quality of the establishment that we were staying in. The rooms were excellent; spacious, clean and had all of the amenities that you would expect. The private bathroom and shower were brilliant and the heating was delightful throughout our stay. The purpose of our stay was to facilitate a trip to the Observatory Science Centre (https://www.the-observatory.org/) in nearby Herstmonceux and being only 10 minutes away meant that we got to enjoy a wonderful evening there star gazing knowing that we could stay as late as we wanted thanks to us being given a key to get back into the hotel. Breakfast the next day was outstanding and after fulfilling the initial obligation of some fruit and yoghurt, a Full English was on the cards and once again exceeded all expectations. Go for the poached egg option; you won't be disappointed! We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would not hesitate to recommend to others nor to return ourselves. Thank you for having us!

A lovely Place to Stay
Made to feel very welcome on arrival. We had a lovely room, very comfortable with plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate making facilities. Breakfast and our evening meals were excellent 10/10. Our hosts were very friendly, really nice people.

Gorgeous cosy hotel stay
Lovely cosy hotel with the friendliest hosts, Phillip and Nicky, who couldn’t have been more helpful for all our needs during our stay. We ate at the hotel one night of our stay and it was delicious. We were at a wedding the second night, otherwise we’d have happily eaten there again!

Great period coach house( forge?!)
Great period old coach house on the Hastings side of Hailsham on the main route through. A bit of road noise but nothing to really worry about. Great hosts and even though they mentioned that they were on limited menu - you wouldn't have known.All meals cooked fresh to order. Brilliant poached eggs for breakfast - always a good test to see if the chef knows what they are doing ! Will be back at some point. Many thanks for your hospitality

Lovely place for a short break
Excellent breakfast comfortable if a little compact room. Hosts made us welcome and introduced us to the hotel policies. Exceptionally clean and good use made of available space in a converted traditional and historic building. Nice well maintained garden area. The only niggle was the road noise late into the night and early morning. If we stay there again we would request one of the rooms at the rear of the property. Overall a very pleasant two night break at an interesting property run by lovely hosts.

Phillip and Nicky were so welcoming to me and went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. I was trying to manage a family situation and Phillip went above and beyond providing a ride for me since I couldn't find a taxi. They made a beautiful dinner and breakfast for me and offered a helping hand to my situation. The room was very comfortable and clean...and my bed was so comfortable! Thank you!

A great hotel
I stayed for business, just after the covid lock down ended. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner and I felt that they had taken more than adequate provision for my safety during this covid crisis. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Quaint old building with good sized rooms. Phil and Nicky are very polite and ready to assist if we needed, we didn’t need anything (apart from breakfast!). Food and service very good, a very pleasant weekend break.

Trip was booked as R & R after being very poorly the last 3 weeks. Philip and Nicky were wonderful hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. Although I didn't have dinner there, the menu is very appetising! Quiet room looking out onto fields. Breakfast was exemplary with plenty of choice from the buffet (I chose fresh fruit of at least 5 different fruits). I then had smoked haddock and poached egg which was cooked very well by Philip. Nicky ensured I was kept topped up with coffee and with music in the background my breakfast was relaxed and was there for over an hour. I will definitely go back and recommend to anyone.

A charming and unexpected find in E. Sussex
Our hosts Nicky & Philip Earland a delight to meet. We arrived at the Olde Forge Hotel late afternoon. The drive had been long, miserable with torrential rain throughout and now dark when we reached Magham Down. The wonderful greeting from Nicky cheered us both making the whole day less stressful. The Olde Forge Hotel exactly what we required - quiet, full of old world charm and a big bonus such a comfortable bed. A delicious evening meal was prepared by Philip and served by Nicky. I could not fault the meal and particularly enjoyed the salmon. Again breakfast before we left, for the final stage of our journey, was perfect. We both appreciated the kindness from Nicky and Philip during our short stay.

We chose The Olde Forge Hotel primarily for it's location close to family members in the Eastbourne area. We were not disappointed and for the price the hotel was ideal. The staff (husband and wife team) were excellent - friendly and very helpful making the whole stay of 5 days a very pleasant one. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was perfect with a large very comfortable bed and en suite shower room/toilet. Although next to a busy road the hotel was quiet - which we liked. Parking was free and easy - another important factor when the local towns charge so much for street or car park parking. I have other family members that need to stay in an hotel in the Hailsham / Willingdon / Eastbourne area and have already recommended The Olde Forge Hotel to them. I would not do this unless I was very happy with the whole package.

The Olde Forge is a very friendly and comfortable, we were welcomed with a smile and cheery conversation. Breakfasts were great and cooked to order. Our room was clean and fresh. For me personally, the Bed was too soft, but my Husband though it was OK. There was plenty of draw and wardrobe space which is unusual these days. Located just outside Hailsham, but is just a short drive to some nice areas. Although it is on a main road, we didn't hear any traffic and our room faced the road. All in all would defiantly stay there again and recommend it.

Stayed for 1 night on a recent business trip. Booked the room 45 minutes before arriving. Was made very welcome by the owners Philip & Nicky who seem to do everything from reception, catering, bar & room cleaning! Stayed in a room with a balcony which was very clean & comfortable. Tea making facilities & plenty of extra tea /coffee / sugar & biscuits available to help yourself to. It didn’t have ensuite facilities but had a private shower room just outside the door. Bathrobes were provided just incase you bumped into anyone on the landing. It seems that evening meal is usually ordered at breakfast time, so with my short notice arrival I didn’t have a menu to choose from from, but Philip (owner & chef) gave me 3 meal options when I arrived, and he made a lovely fish pie with 6 veg for my evening meal. I chose not to have a cooked breakfast but all of the plates that were served to the other guests looked lovely, all had been pre ordered, so some had fried bread, some had eggs cooked to preference etc. Listening to the chatter in the dining room, the guests all loved The Old Forge and some had stayed previously, loving the friendly owners. I would definitely stay here again when next in the area, however, I now understand that Phil & Nicky do need notice of your plans (arrival time / food choice etc) as it is a small (but efficient) husband & wife team.

Stay was good and really nice people but on the hotel.com website said the town was 0.1 m to it. There was not many in the Hotel so the restaurant and bar was closed but they tried to e mail but booked only 40 min before arriving. Would stay again but would check the restaurant was open.
