Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Gees?
The best area to stay in Gees is directly within the village centre, particularly around the main street, Geeserstuk.

Gees itself is a small, picturesque village in Drenthe, known for its traditional Saxon farms and beautiful natural surroundings. The village centre, particularly along Geeserstuk, offers a selection of guesthouses and holiday homes. This area is very quiet and provides a peaceful base for exploring the region. You'll find a few local eateries and a small church here.

For couples seeking a quiet retreat with easy access to nature, staying in the village centre is ideal. You can enjoy strolls through the village and quickly access cycling and walking routes that lead into the surrounding heathlands and forests. The village's relaxed pace makes it great for unwinding.

Families will also find the village centre of Gees a good fit. Many holiday homes offer more space than typical hotels, and the quiet streets are pleasant for children.
When is the best time to go to Gees?
The best time to visit Gees is during the spring (April to June) and late summer/early autumn (September to October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

Spring in Gees sees the landscape come alive. The weather is generally mild, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C, making it ideal for exploring the surrounding nature reserves like the Mantingerzand or the Dwingelderveld National Park. This period is particularly good for couples who enjoy walking or cycling through blooming heather fields and forests.

Late summer and early autumn also offer agreeable conditions. September and October bring cooler, crisp air, with temperatures between 10°C and 18°C, and the changing colours of the leaves create a beautiful backdrop for outdoor activities. This time of year is excellent for families looking to enjoy the natural beauty without the peak summer crowds, perhaps visiting a local farm or one of the nearby dolmens.

While summer (July and August) is warmer, with temperatures reaching up to 25°C, it's also the busiest period, especially with Dutch holidaymakers.
