The Space:
Quiet mountain air, bare branches, and the soft hush of the Shenandoah Valley set the tone as you arrive. Steam rises from the hot tub against the air, and evenings naturally slow down under a sky full of stars. Inside, warm light, simple comforts, and woodland views make it easy to settle in and stay awhile.
Sweet Pea Cottage is an entire home tucked into a wooded setting near Front Royal, offering a cozy retreat well suited for families, couples, or a small group of friends. The pace here is unhurried, with space to reconnect indoors and outdoors.
Sleeping arrangements
The cottage has two bedrooms designed to comfortably sleep up to four guests. One bedroom features a queen bed, while the second includes a set of bunk beds. Bed linens and extra pillows and blankets are provided, making it easy to stay comfortable during chilly nights. A large loft area offers additional space to relax, read, or spend time together, though it is intended for hanging out rather than sleeping.
Living spaces
The main living areas are simple and welcoming, with radiant heating to keep the space comfortable. A Smart TV and fast WiFi support quiet evenings indoors, whether you’re streaming a favorite show or catching up on work at the dedicated workspace located in a separate room with a door. The sunroom, lined with large windows, looks directly into the surrounding woods and is an inviting place to sip coffee or watch snowfall drift through the trees.
Kitchen and dining
A full kitchen allows you to prepare meals at your own pace, whether that’s a hearty breakfast before heading out or a relaxed dinner after a day of exploring. The dining area keeps everyone connected, making shared meals part of the experience rather than a rush between plans.
Outdoor living
The outdoor spaces are a highlight. The hot tub is available year-round and especially enjoyable on evenings. A private patio or balcony, private backyard, BBQ grill, and picnic table give you options to step outside whenever the weather cooperates. The yard is not fully fenced, so pets should be supervised. Guests also have lake access via a path or dock, adding another quiet natural element to the stay.
Location and surroundings
The cottage is about a 15-minute drive into downtown Front Royal, where you’ll find restaurants, shops, and local favorites. Shenandoah National Park is also roughly 15 minutes away, making hikes and scenic drives easily accessible. Breweries and wineries are within a short drive as well, offering relaxed outings year-round.
Perfect for
Sweet Pea Cottage is pet-friendly and well suited for families, couples seeking a peaceful retreat, or friends looking for a quiet base near nature. With self check-in, free parking on premises, and a private entrance, your stay remains easy and flexible from arrival to departure.
Note
We have an indoor fireplace, but unfortunately it's not usable and is only decorative.
The previous owners smoked, and there's a very slight smoke smell in the house. Most guests don't notice, but if you're very sensitive to it this may not be the place for you.
Our cleaning team sweeps the deck, stairs, and walkways before each arrival, but due to the natural setting, you may still notice some leaves, pollen, or similar—especially during certain seasons. We appreciate your understanding as nature tends to leave its mark, no matter how often we tidy up!
Pet Policy
We’re happy to welcome dogs to join you on your getaway! Please note that due to allergies, we’re unable to accommodate cats. A $29 pet fee applies per furry friend, per night to help cover additional cleaning and care. Thanks for understanding—we look forward to hosting you and your pup!
Longer Stays
For stays of 14 nights or longer, guests will be asked to e-sign a rental agreement prior to arrival. This agreement helps us comply with local requirements while protecting the property, and will be sent in advance for review.

Everything was as described. We had a lovely weekend relaxing under the stars in the hot tub and spending time with family in the Shenandoah Valley. We can't wait to come back to this oasis!
This cottage was perfect for our visit to the area to explore Shenandoah National Park and wineries. The town of Front Royal is so nice too! The cottage was super clean and had everything we needed. We loved relaxing in the sunroom with our doggie after a day of exploring. The host was very responsive.

The property was ok. There wasn't much of a view from the cottage. It was clean but kind of small. The gas grill on the deck was nice to have. The only major problem was that there was no hot water on our last day there. We notified the owner, but he could not get anyone out there until the next day, when we left. So that was kind of a bummer. No showers or hot water to properly do the dishes.
The house itself was clean, the beds are comfortable, and it is in a nice, quiet, and private location. The property manager was very pleasant and responsed to any questions or concerns quickly.
The cottage was amazing!! The hot tub was great and check in was super easy :) Internet and phone service were very good, and the cottage was stocked with all the kitchen utensils and linens we could have needed!
Quaint, comfortable, clean, and very quiet setting in the woods. The host's emails were both informative and expressed a strong desire to be sure everything was good.
Verry clean place, comfortable bed, hot tub was awesome, owner easy to deal with. The only disappointment is the fireplace is just for show. I would recommend this cabin and I will come back.
We had a great time staying here. Amazing hikes. Tony helped us with recommendations and answered any questions we had. The ladder to the top floor gave it such a cozy attic vibe. Fire pit was clutch.

Basic but ok
Worked for our needs- 2 adults and a dog- but the hot tub is really the only bonus. House is small and clean and kitchen stocked etc but the beds and furniture not super comfortable and lacking any charm or extras that most VRBOs provide.

Maybe in the spring?
Not a pleasant experience in winter. Radiator in children's room was tepid. However I think the spring, with the porch overlooking the trees, birds, and opportunities for walks, it likely is more enjoyable.

Disliked: Listing accuracy
The property is just ok. There is mold in the bathroom shower grout which is kind of disgusting. You also need to take your own trash to the trash facility. The listing also has pictures of a working fireplace, and the fireplace does not actually work, which I find to be deceptive. The host asks us if we wanted to stay an extra night because he didn’t have a booking. We said no, and asked for a late check out, which he would not accommodate us with, despite offering it for an extra 80. Stay somewhere else.
We enjoyed the cabin in the woods. It was very quiet and comfortable. Our family enjoyed the hot tub and the loft upstairs for playing cards and games. Property manager communicated with us very well. It is about 20 minutes from Front Royal on a gravel road. The stars were really bright out there!
Everything was wonderful. Location, cleanliness and communication.

Clean + Comfortable.
Great communication from owner and overall a clean and comfortable place to stay. Not awesome for dogs as there is no real backyard and neighbors are close--many of whom have dogs that freely roam. Surrounding area is beautiful and lots of great places for hiking and other outdoor activities.
We really enjoyed our stay (May 2022). Place was clean, airy, comfortable beds, fast internet, clean bathroom, good kitchen. Last mile to the house is gravel and steep at times, but totally navigable. Tony was great with regular communication, and provided very useful instructions and area information. Enjoyed the Shenandoah river and also Lake Frederick for boating and fishing. Highly recommend!
Good stay- but, home could have been better outfitted.
Tony was wonderfully helpful and easy to deal with. However, it should be noted that the property itself is not on the river or water. Rather, it is part of a neighborhood which has access. The porch, which is lovely, could benefit from more comfortable furniture and the kitchen needs to be better stocked for making meals at home.
This was such a great stop on our road trip from NY to Florida. There was plenty of room for my son and dog to play. Thank you for letting us visit your beautiful home.
Cozy mountain retreat and Tony was very a very helpful host checking in with us often and offering helpful tips.
The area was beautiful in late spring. Road up the hill needs to be navigated carefully.
About 28 mins to Shenandoah national park entrance at front royal.
Tony was a fabulous host and was very communicative and helpful throughout the entire checking in, and he answered any questions that my partner and I had! The property itself is very well-maintained and has adorable decorating, the detail and care that went into this lovely home is evident. If you want some dinner PaveMint is a wonderful outdoor and indoor BBQ restaurant and the food was AWESOME. There is a close hike called Buzzard Rock nearby that is relatively quick that you don't need entrance into Shenandoah National Park for, and had some awesome views from the top of the mountain. The fire pit after a long day was great to come home to and you really felt in the woods and spaced out from neighbors and others so it was an intimate and delightful experience. Thank you so much for letting us stay and we will be back! :) MaryJo and Zack
