Additional parking is available in front of the house near the street. Please do not park on the septic field. Pamlico Sound and Scotch Bonnet Marina are nearby for inshore activities, boating, fishing, clamming etc. Hatteras Village and marinas are 4 miles south for off shore pursuits and free ferry to Ocracoke. Buxton and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse are 6 miles to the north. Shopping, groceries and restaurants are available in both and also nearby camp store in Frisco. Close to off road ramps 48 and 49 in Frisco. You need a permit from Park Service. The Hatteras Ferry Landing is 4 miles south with the free ferry to Ocracoke for a day trip. Also passenger ferry in the summer to Silver Lake Harbor. This house is great for families, couples, friends, surfers, wind surfers, kite boarders, fishermen, beach lovers and star gazers! With beautiful uncrowded beaches and clear waters Frisco stays a little warmer this far south and this close to the Gulf Stream. Try this house for you needs! No check in required, a wireless door code will be provided to you before your arrival. Arrival time 4pm to allow for enhanced cleaning. Check out by 10 am to allow for cleaning. Please purchase trip insurance as no refunds are given 30 days prior to check in, even for weather events. If you arrive early waiting for check in there is a public Park Service beach in Frisco, 1 mile south of Robin Lane with parking, restrooms, beach access, and fresh water rinse. Lifeguard in season. Hatteras Island has no curbside recycle. If you want to recycle you can take your things to the Buxton Transfer Station operated by Dare County. The comet is somewhat unique since this would be it's only ever visit to the inner Solar System before being ejected to interstellar space forever. It was by no means an easy target to locate and photograph in the night sky especially for someone who's never done that before. But this is not about my attempts at capturing Comet Catalina (although I did manage to view and capture it). After I was done looking at the comet, I settled by the beach next to this pier, one of my favorite places on the North Carolina Outerbanks, to hear the ocean's mesmerizing soundtrack. I still had about 2 hours to go before sunrise and so I was just sitting and enjoying the unseasonably warm winter in December and just looking at the stars, Venus, Jupiter and Mars in the night sky. I suddenly noticed this big cloud about 5 minutes in streaking just below bright Venus. On a hunch, I decided to capture an image to see what the cloud looked like and a short 15 second later, I saw the start of what turned out to be one of the most perfect sunrises I have borne witness to. The cloud had started to just pick up the first rays from the sun, with about an hour and a half to go before sunrise. I love the juxtaposition of every single element in this image. The fading of the night sky and stars with Venus shining valiantly as the sun comes back to herald the start of another day, the stretch of unbroken cloud over the hurricane damaged pier and the sheer beauty created in an otherwise damaging act of Mother Nature (the hurricane, not the sunrise :) ). This duality is what inspired the title of the image. If you're near the NC coast, this location is a must stop. It is close to the town of Buxton and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. As usual, it was our home away from home. It’s clean, cozy, and comfortable. It has all the basics we need. The property owner is proactive, responsive, thoughtful, and kind. The beach access is a very short walk away. The covered decks are great places to have morning coffee or evening drinks, or to just enjoy the view. As me and my friends are older, our expectations are fairly simple, a place that’s clean, appliances that function as they should, and plenty of hot water! The Frisco location is perfect if you like easy access to the various ramps onto the beach, nice restaurants,and grocery stores. As usual, the house was perfect for our young family. The kitchen has more than enough dishware, silverware, cookware, and other kitchen utensils and tools - plus a charcoal grill. We've had everything we needed for normal/basic cooking. The house also has a few beach chairs, a beach umbrella, and beach toys if you've forgotten yours. The house is clean and well kept but not a stuffy museum - which is great when you have kids - and it's cozy and comfortable. There are also a few amenities for anglers. The owner is communicative and very responsive.
