Convento do Seixo Boutique Hotel & Spa

10/10 Excellent

"Extremely clean property. Staff were extremely helpful from the moment we walked in. They get your bags, and load them to your room. Easy and quick check in. Complimentary drink before you get to the room. The place smelt like heaven. Not sure what that fragrance was going on in the building, but it was divine."

Vila Galé Collection Serra da Estrela Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Hotel is beautifully situated. Great view from our room! Staff are very attentive and helpful. Restaurant à la carte meals were excellent and one evening buffet was fairly good as well. Breakfasts were great. One wish is that there would have been a 24 hour lobby coffee bar to get early morning coffee (or a machine in the room). Staff in the breakfast room were very accommodating, but only available after 8am when the restaurant opened."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ferro?

The best area to stay in Ferro is generally within the village centre, particularly around the main square and the streets immediately surrounding it.This area is the heart of Ferro and offers the most convenient access to local amenities. You'll find the parish church, a few traditional eateries, and small local shops here. The streets are narrow and winding, typical of a Portuguese village, and it's easy to explore on foot. For couples looking for a quiet and authentic experience, staying in the village centre provides easy access to the local culture. You can enjoy strolls through the historic streets, sample local cuisine, and experience the relaxed pace of life. It's also a good base for exploring the surrounding natural beauty, such as the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, which is a short drive away.Families might also find the village centre accommodating, especially if they appreciate a calm environment away from bustling tourist hubs. The central location means everything is within easy reach, and the local community often provides a warm welcome.

When is the best time to go to Ferro?

The best time to visit Ferro is typically during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and comfortable for exploring.During these months, you'll find mild temperatures, generally ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park or exploring the local villages. The countryside is particularly picturesque in spring with blooming wildflowers and in autumn with the changing colours of the leaves. For those who prefer warmer weather and don't mind the heat, July and August offer plenty of sunshine and average temperatures around 30°C, sometimes higher. This is superb for enjoying the river beaches or relaxing by a pool. However, it can be quite busy with local holidaymakers during this peak season.Winter, from November to March, brings cooler temperatures, often between 5°C and 15°C, with some rainfall. If you're interested in winter sports, this is the time to visit the higher altitudes of the Serra da Estrela for skiing or snowboarding.
