Find hotels in Elundini from CA $38

The best area to stay in Elundini is generally within the main village centres, particularly around Ugie or Maclear, as they offer the most amenities and convenient access to the region's natural beauty.

For those seeking a base with more established infrastructure, Ugie is a good choice. It's a small town with a few local shops, petrol stations, and guesthouses. This area is known for its rolling hills and agricultural landscapes, making it a pleasant spot for travellers who appreciate a rural setting with some conveniences. It serves as a practical starting point for exploring the surrounding Eastern Cape Highlands.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will find Maclear appealing. This slightly larger town offers a bit more in terms of dining options and local crafts. It's located in a valley, providing scenic views and easy access to outdoor activities like fly fishing in the nearby rivers or exploring the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains.

The best time to visit Elundini is during the dry season, which runs from May to September, or the shoulder seasons of April and October, for pleasant weather and clear skies.

The dry season offers cooler temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, and significantly less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, exploring the local villages, and enjoying the natural beauty of the Eastern Cape. The lower humidity also means more comfortable days and evenings.

April and October are excellent shoulder months, providing a balance of good weather and fewer crowds. Temperatures are mild, usually between 20°C and 28°C, and while there might be occasional rain showers, they're generally brief, leaving plenty of sunshine for sightseeing. These months are particularly good for couples looking for a tranquil escape before or after the main tourist rush.

While the summer months from November to March bring warmer temperatures, often exceeding 30°C, they also coincide with the wet season, characterised by higher humidity and frequent thunderstorms.
