Room 104 smelled terrible, even after the staff "cleaned" the room again. When we complained to the manager, he said he didnt smell anything wrong. The hotel agreed to change our rooms the, then changed their minds, then gave me the key after I insisted they do so (long protracted argument) . Room 103 was ok, but staff and drivers were outside the window below...

"Very good hotel.Super pool although hand rails would help. Sunbeds with towels available, static shades could be improved. Good breakfast. V.good Sri Lankan buffet lunch at reasonable price but get there before the coach parties arrive! Evening meals have moved from the pleasant open area to an all armchair restaurant which we didn't find very comfortable for eating. Our room was good but the extra bed did limit the space available. Very pleasant terrace to the room. We enjoyed bird watching...

"It is a lovely property ans breakfaat spread is quite large. Staff are friendly byt could be better trained on small nuances. The last who checked us in vaguely indicated the direction of the room and we spent 10 minuted walki g up and down searching for it. When we asked for a la carte food options other than the I.suan restaurant they have, ot took me 20 minutes to get the front desk to admit that a la carte foid could be ordered at tje lounge bar as well. When i we t to the lounge bar it took another 15.minutrs if argument for them to agree that yes they would accept the irdr even when the food menu was clearly lying inthe counter top! With a bit of better training this place would be great"

"We had a very enjoyable stay at Fox Kandy. The hotel is beautifully designed, and its hilltop location provides perfect views over Kandy and the surrounding hills. One of the standout moments was the morning mist covering the lower parts of the city and hills, leaving the peaks visible above it. It was a beautiful sight. The staff were exceptional, and the food and dining experience were also very good. The infinity pool is a must after a day in town. The road up the hill is a little winding, but once you arrive, it is clearly worth it. After a full day exploring Kandy, I’d suggest taking a tuk tuk back up to the hotel. Overall, a memorable stay in a very scenic setting."

"I try to write fair, detailed reviews as I rely on them myself when choosing properties. Mountbatten appealed to me for its heritage positioning and proximity to Kandy’s historical centre, and in many ways it delivered. Location & Atmosphere – 5★ The setting is exceptional: tranquil, elevated, surrounded by greenery, and beautifully maintained. The infinity pool is stunning and the staff are very mindful of guests seeking quiet. It genuinely feels peaceful. Service – 5★ Warm, attentive and polished throughout. The team clearly cares and service is consistently strong. Rooms – 4★ I stayed in the main bungalow (last-minute booking), not in one of the standalone jungle lodges, which look beautiful. My room was comfortable with strong AC and a spacious bathroom, though certain finishes could benefit from cosmetic updates. Food – 4★ Breakfast is good if you choose wisely. Coffee, however, does not match five-star standards. The main issue was menu consistency: several dishes did not fully match their written descriptions, and ingredients listed were sometimes missing. Communication between kitchen and menu needs tightening. Overall, Mountbatten has outstanding foundations — location, tranquility and service. With improved kitchen execution and small refinements, it could easily move from very good to exceptional. I would return — especially to try one of the lodges. "

"This property is falsely advertised as a 4.5-star hotel; in reality, it falls far short of that standard. It is an old, converted house with dated furnishings, holes in window frames, and a leaking roof. While the staff are friendly—and Smith, in particular, was very persistent in his efforts to help us—the management fails on basic amenities. There was no daily housekeeping or spa as promised, and we were even locked out one day due to the lack of a 24-hour front desk. The food is only bearable, the location provides lovely view, but is an absolute inconvenience, being far removed from the main road."

"Clean and crisp is no small feat in a hotel room in Sri Lanka. This hotel was near spotless. My only problem was the room window opened to a concrete wall, a sad thing when Kandy has so many wonderful views.
