What I liked the most was the view from room. The hotel needs a good renovation. Loved the decore in the room. Needs to be more generous with the towels etc. always some towel is missing. As for the food it was good but all the sambals need attention. The chefs need to learn how to make a good lunumiris, seen sambal etc. Wattalappan fantastic. Oat porridge not ok. Fruit selection ok but no mango. How about some original sinhalese sweets. Kevun, thalaguli, arsmi, kokis kaludodol?

The first thing I noticed was the courteous and ready to help staff, Taj has large tree covered property with both ocean and city views. I used the buffets styled restaurant offering international food and with more Indian themed food choices. (not surpised there since Taj is an Indian hotel company and at my visit, majority of guest were Indians.

At check-in, we were told our room was not ready even though we arrived 2 hrs after check in time, when I questioned why that was the case for a “5 star” hotel, they miraculously found another room available to give us, figure that! There were plenty of friendly staff, but they were not attentive. We had dinner in the Indian restaurant - good quality and nice food. Overall, I would say “faded glory” in style and character - may not stay again here.

We stayed for two nights. ALL of the staff are BRILLIANT and looked after us really well. The room was spacious and the rain-shower incredible… probably the best I’ve had. The on-site Indian restaurant was excellent as was breakfast. Easy to walk around the area and just 5 minutes to Park Street for loads of good dining options. Wholeheartedly recommend Taj Samudra.
