About this property
Premiere Beach House, Family Friendly, West Lakeshore Drive
Awaken to a sun-drenched bedroom view of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Sip morning coffee in one of the lake view sun rooms. Take an early, refreshing dip in the lake, have lunch at a sidewalk cafe or the incomparable Hudson's Hamburgers, and plan a day at the beach or seeing the sights. Later, walk across the park for a supper cruise or an evening of downtown dining and entertainment; then stroll home with the moonlight reflecting across the shimmering water. Fall asleep, stars shining through the skylight. The recently refurbished Gumprecht House is situated on the shore of beautiful Lake Coeur d' Alene in picturesque Northern Idaho. It offers spectacular views with comfortable and spacious family-friendly accommodations, plus close proximity to downtown shops and restaurants as well as the amenities of the famous Coeur d'Alene Resort. Enjoy water sports, lake cruises, bike trails, hiking, golf, antique shops, museums, snow skiing and nature's beauty.
History:: The Gumprecht House sits on property once part of Fort Sherman, founded in 1878 to protect settlers, one of a string of forts built in response to the 1876 Custer massacre. After the fort was disbanded, the property was auctioned off. It was then subdivided in 1905. The lot was purchased in 1906 by the Nevers family and the house built in 1907. It was the first private beachfront house, had the pick of the lots and, consequently, an unsurpassed view. For many years the house was occupied, then owned, by the Graue family who graciously allowed the Gumprechts and others to use the beach. The Gumprecht family acquired the property in 1977 and extensively remodeled in 1981. Elderly grandchildren of the original owner knocked on the door in 1982 to tour the changes and warmly approved. One of them had actually been born in the original master bedroom. They had all passed by the house on annual summer visits to Coeur d'Alene but had not been in the house since before 1920.
Bike Storage: Bikers should like our property as there is a side entrance that proceeds directly to the finished basement which is suitable for keeping their bikes. There is a bathroom and shower in the basement as well that could be useful for runners or others. The 24-mile Centennial trail passes directly in front of the house. And, yes, we have a large pasta pot.
Family room & game room: To provide a break from the elegant main floor spaces the back porch was enclosed years ago, creating a casual and comfortable family area just off the kitchen and breakfast nook. It contains a Big Screen HDTV, Blu-ray player, Xbox and DVDs as well as WiFi. See an earlier description of the game room located in the basement. We aim to accommodate families with children so, in addition to the game room with Wii, foosball, air hockey we provide 2 pack-n-plays, 2 high chairs, a stroller, 3 booster chairs, coloring books and crayons, board games, dollies, toy trucks, blocks, legos, giant legos, etc. Kids always love it and can whoop it up all they want with minimal disturbance of adults. For the elders, the West sunroom has a TV and blu ray, with French doors that can be closed to provide peace and quiet.
We are intending to accommodate families and other responsible groups. Bad experience has taught us that we do not wish to rent to groups of young men. House parties are forbidden by Vrbo unless expressly authorized.
A word about beach access. Although the beach in front of the house down to the summer waterline is privately owned by Dr Gumprecht, he has always allowed well-behaved members of the general public to use it. This has been true of this particular beach for at least 90 years. However, if there is a need to rope off a portion of the beach property for private use, there is yellow nylon rope and stakes stored inside the front door closet for that purpose.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this lakehouse in Coeur d’Alene. The location couldn’t have been better—close to everything, incredibly convenient, yet still peaceful and relaxing. Great for all ages. The home was spotless and beautifully designed. The layout was ideal, with all main bedrooms on the second floor and a private primary suite on the third floor showcasing breathtaking lake views. The basement game room was a great feature—set apart so noise didn’t carry into the sleeping areas—while the lower levels offered plenty of space to spread out and entertain. The views truly set this property apart. Waking up to the lake each morning was unforgettable and made the entire stay feel special. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, well-located, and relaxing getaway.
This was an amazing house and fit my Birthday holiday plans for my family and Grandkids! Also very close to the Santa cruise for the little kids too! Loved coming here and will come back for sure.
The house was beautiful with amazing views of the water and the Christmas lights at the resort. I really appreciated the cleanliness and all the amenities that were provided. Definitely on our “stay there again” list
The host prioritizes a family friendly experience! The property manager, Roni, is wonderful, extrememly attentive and accessible and does everything to make our stay top notch! This is our 7th year of thoroughly enjoying this property. A resounding 5 Star experience!!
This house was a dream for our family vacation! It is roomy, comfortable, extremely well stocked, and in the absolute best location in town. Our adult kids loved the game room, and we all enjoyed hanging out in the sunrooms and the backyard. The hosts are the nicest people ever, and went way beyond to make sure everything was perfect for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and hope we can come back again!
We stayed with 3 families and had many children under 5. The location was ideal for walking to the park, beach, downtown, and marina.
Our family loved that it felt like a home.
This is the second time we've stayed at this house for a family vacation. Perfect location, perfect views of the beach, awesome playroom for young kids. You can't go wrong!
The perfect location and great for large families! The property manager was very responsive with a special request we had for our toddler. An absolutely wonderful place and I would definitely stay again!
The property, it’s location and it’s private beach area are first class. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it was great to introduce our visiting parents to such a beautiful part of Idaho.
We have stayed at the Gumprecht House several times and it is perfect for our family (18 months to 77!). The location is perfect, whether we are at the beach, out on the lake with our boat and wave runners, taking the kids to the very close park, playing pickle ball or strolling the streets of the lovely village. If not walking, our favorite mode of transportation is bicycling. The house is roomy and beautiful with 5 bedrooms and many sitting areas on the main floor. We shall be returning for many years to come!
Five couples came together to enjoy this beautiful home on the lake. It is well appointed with everything you need. Sitting on the lawn across from the lake was exceptionally nice. We walked down to the marina and enjoyed the shops several times during our stay.
We have such a great time staying here with our kids and grandkids! The weather wasn't as good this year but there are plenty of games available to enjoy.
It never disappoints!! So family friendly, cozy and with an incredible view. The property manager, Roni, has always been amazing and so easy to work with. We can't rate this house and experience highly enough ... in EVERY category. Thank you, Gumprecht House and all who are involved in keeping this special place going!
Beautiful lakeside home! Fully equipped kitchen, great basement game room, two gorgeous sunrooms overlooking the water, and chairs and towels included for the beach. Short walk to all restaurants and shops. Adjacent to a gorgeous park. Perfect for our family reunion. Would not hesitate to stay again!
We absolutely loved our stay. The house is beautiful and stocked with everything you might need. The kids loved the basement with all of the toys! The view of the beach from the front windows was breathtaking and it was a very short walk to the beach and park from the house. Couldn't have asked for a better stay during our family trip!
