Idyllic cottage with its own rowing boat directly at the Shannon
The 300-year-old, lovingly renovated cottage is located in the heart of Ireland, just 4.5 km from Carrick-on-Shannon. It sits on a large natural plot of hilly land directly at the river Shannon, with its own long water front and small harbor, which includes a rowing boat. Apart from the friendly owners, who live, not visible, on the other side of the hilly property and are happy to help and advise, you only have cows and sheep as direct neighbors! On the extensive, partly landscaped, partly natural property you will always find a wind-protected place for your deck chair to enjoy the view of the boats passing by, a brick barbecue, and plenty of room to play games!
Facilities: Living room with satellite TV, CD player, books and games are also available for entertainment. Cozy fireplace room (wooden/natural stone wall), bright winter garden with exit to the terrace. Fully equipped kitchen with stove and oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker and juicer. Two bedrooms, each with a double bed. Sofa bed in the fireplace room. Bathroom with shower/bathtub, bidet and toilet. Second bathroom accessible from the outside with shower and toilet. Washer and dryer inside the cottage. WiFi at no extra charge.
Activities and excursion options: Very good fishing opportunities (pike, bream, eel, etc.) on the river bank of the property, from the rowing boat, or in the surrounding area. There are also opportunities for hiking, golfing (18-hole golf course approx. 6 km away) and cycling (3 bicycles are available). Day trips to Strandhill/Sligo (see photo with Mount Benbulbin, 62.3 km, 1 hour), Clonmacnoise south of Athlone (see photo, 93.2 km, 1.5 hours), Galway (118 km, 2 hours), and Dublin (153 km, 2 hours), to name a few.
Included: bed linen, table linen and towels, WiFi, final cleaning, 1 rowing boat, 3 bicycles. Usage of rowing boat and bicycles at own risk.
Extra (to be paid on site, according to usage): electricity and heating.

This cottage is a rare find for those seeking peace and tranquility. The only man-made sounds you hear are from a distant occasional train or slow moving pleasure craft on the river. There is no passing traffic as the property is near the end of a long, private lane. Silent, however, it is not. The cacophony of birdsong is extraordinary, especially mornings and evenings. Those with a more experienced ear than me will detect dozens of birds. The outdoor space is fantastic for relaxing or barbecuing and if you have a furry friend they have well over an acre of secure ground to roam in. Inside, a small, well equipped kitchen awaits and you'll find a generous dining room and table. The two bedrooms are generous with very comfortable beds and pillows and separated from each other for extra privacy. The lounge/sun room is lovely with a large L-shaped sofa to accommodate four adults. Internet and WiFi were perfectly adequate for our purposes (2 phones and a laptop). Our host was very gracious, even remembering to bring us an anniversary card as I'd mentioned we were celebrating in my initial message. Only thing to note is to make sure you follow the directions to the property accurately as our satnav didn't recognise the private lane as a road. It truly is as remote as you could wish for yet only 10 minutes from Carrick on Shannon.
