Translating to “Throat of the Sun” in Yucatec Maya, Calkiní is a municipality in the Mexican state of Campeche that abounds with outdoor adventures and sun-drenched settlements. Preserved wetlands near the Gulf of Mexico shelter colonies of pink flamingos and mangrove-studded waters. Visit Calkiní to explore colonial treasures and intriguing museums to learn about Calkiní’s rich history. A good place to begin your exploration of Calkiní is in the municipal seat of the same name. Calkiní is a city that reveals a captivating tapestry of history to those who take the time to explore. Check out the imposing stone façade of the church San Luis Obispo, which dates back to 1548\.
