  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Staffs are so nice and helpful. Rooms smells so nice with the fragrance they have placed. There is also a fireplace in the room which made is warm and cozy whenever you needed it. Hotel is also pet friendly, we were given a care package for my dog.

Beautiful hotel, tastefully renovated. We stayed at the executive suite with garden view, which was adorable. There was a hiccup during checkout as we were abruptly told that we hadn’t paid for the room, while in fact we had. We showed the invoice and it was settled but the way this was dealt with left a bad taste.

Notary True Elegance

This is fantastic hotel and the decor is absolutely superb, the bedroom was luxurious and bed huge and comfy, the shower was absolutely fantastic, the staff can not do enough for you. The grounds are secluded garden that has a bathing pool (not heated ) in the centre but the garden is extremely well maintained and they have several patios with very comfy seating and there is a canal at the end of the garden. They also have a wellness centre and a jacuzzi which we didnt try on our stay

Amazing hotel - let down by 'pool & spa'

Had a lovely weekend break with my girlfriend and enjoyed every bit of this hotel - my only criticism is that they advertise pool, jaquizzi and spa - but the pool is basically a pond in the garden (with fish in it) and spa is a small out house with tiny sauna in it. They also charge an extra fee for using the spa, which is disappointing considering the amount you spend on the room. We decided against using the spa for that reason.
