The Cottage - Powburn - North East Escapes

8/10 Good

"Liked: Clean and modern facilities such as coffee machine and Quooker tap, the location (the Plough Inn and the lunch at the cafe inside (Running Fox) was very good, however it stops serving food after 3.30pm and the pub doesn't provide dinner. We had to drive to Longframlington for dinner. ) It is a lovely cottage and it is in a beautiful area. (Saw a pheasant in the garden as well) Didn't like: The toilet seats are too high. You need to be 175cm or taller to sit on them with your feet touching the floor. Even if it was very clean, the toilet smelled a bit when I opened the toilet door. I think the toilet doors and the shower doors need to be opened after use as there's no extractor fans; instead there is air circulation system running for the whole house. We had to empty the dishwasher ourselves when we checked in."

"The room was beautiful and the breakfast was lovely. Unfortunately, the dinner was not so good. It’s quite expensive for what you get, I ordered fish and chips and the chips tasted like they had been reheat and weren’t very nice at all."

"The cottage itself was delightful. It was situated at the far end and round the corner, down a track from the main road, so not easy to find and reversing down the track, to pack up at the end was a bit scary! However, the house was lovely. The host Deborah was easy to communicate with and lovely. Although she had told us the key box code, it took us a while to locate it. The bed was very comfortable, the reed diffusers in the room were all locally made and smelled amazing! The bathroom was modern with a huge shower. The one thing I would suggest would be to get a Smart TV. Most people want to stream their TV shows these days so we would have appreciated being able to do that. A bin in the bedroom would be great too. We had a great week exploring the Northumberland countryside and loved it. Bamburgh and Alnwick Castles are excellent days out. Would definitely recommend! Thank you."

Well placed for visiting well known historical places such as pretty Alnick and its Castle only six miles away. Banburgh castle, Lindisfarne and Cragside all within easy reach. What really makes it special are the amazing staff."

"Lovely cottage, super clean and beautifully renovated. We really appreciated the crisps and dog treats :) Parking right outside was handy. Beautiful log burner for a cosy night. Beds were super comfy. My daughter loved the smart-tech in the bathroom showing how much her shower cost. A bit tricky with our 4-legged friends. Stairs too steep for our small dogs, but we barricaded the bottom with our suitcases ok. We were expecting a Deck/Patio as listed but its an open area down some stone steps, so be ready to pop your dogs on the lead if they need to go out. Host was very friendly and instructions were super clear."

"The cottage was very clean, cosy and had everything we needed for a weekend away. The beds were all super comfy and there was plenty of outdoor space in the gardens. We made use of the communal tennis court which was a great added bonus. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Mill House and would absolutely return again. Check in was nice and easy, and the host Joanne was lovey when we needed to communicate. We would definitely recommend."

Conveniently located for walks in Cheviots or the many beautiful coastal villages.We watched lovely sunsets from the garden.As the cottage is very close to the road there was traffic noise - especially at commuter times, however this would not stop us from returning to this lovely cottage which is great value for money.Thank you to the owners."
