Top Agios Ioannis Hotel Reviews

Domes of Elounda, Autograph Collection

10/10 Excellent

"All these items were very good"

Enorme Infinity Elounda - Adults Only

10/10 Excellent

"Lovely hotel a little way from elounda village so best to have a car unless your happy to walk into town. Really liked the position which I think is better than agios Nikolaos. The pool area is really lovely. I was bitten by a hornet…. Beware they hang out near water and saw quite a few. This meant I didn’t get to enjoy the pool and beach because I had a terrible reaction to the bite."

Ella Rocrita, All-Inclusive Resort

8/10 Good

"The resort is lovely although a little remote, we felt for a weeks trip we really had to hire a car. Some things promoted do not exist, such as hiking trails around the resort or biking- there are no bikes available. None of the pools are heated, so in October they are cold and very few people ventured in. The ninja course was excellent, but very little for teenagers to do apart from this. We booked the padel court, but that is one booking a day and has to be done from reception. Fitness classes were good, but difficult to get bookings for - they filled up quickly. The staff were mainly from the Philippines, worked really hard and were great with the children. The food is good and all booked via the app, it is just a shame in a 7 night stay you only get to go to 3 of the 4 à la carte restaurants. The bar staff and drinks were really good, with great choices of cocktails and wines. The room was lovely, and kept beautifully clean. Overall a good hotel at the price paid, so happy."

Aquila Elounda Village Resort, Suites & Spa - Adults Only

8/10 Good

"Lovely location and very helpfull staff. I would say it would not be suitable for anyone with Mobility issues because the site in built in to a steep hill so the beach and many of the facilities are some way down from the main resturant. Great Spa with lovely supportive staff."

InterContinental Crete by IHG

10/10 Excellent

"I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the InterContinental Hotel in Crete. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. The hotel was beautifully designed, my room was comfortable and spotless, and the views were breathtaking. The service was exceptional, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the location was perfect for enjoying everything Crete has to offer. Every detail made my stay feel special. I highly recommend the InterContinental Hotel in Crete and would happily return!"

Domes Aulus Elounda, All-Inclusive Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton - Adults Only

10/10 Excellent

"Loved, Loved, Loved, the staff here was absolutely amazing and so helpful. We spent part of our honeymoon here and it was just what we needed. We paid for all inclusive and chose a room that gave us access to their exclusive pool and restaurant at the top of the resort. Was definitely worth it as the food and presentation was great. The resort itself was beautiful, only downside is that it is on a steep hill so travel around resort can be tricky as you have to call the front desk to arrange a buggy to pick you up. Beach access and spa is great. The resort also helped us plan activities to do. I can’t explain enough how beautiful the views are here. Don’t hesitate and just book!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Agios Ioannis?

The best area to stay in Agios Ioannis is along the main beach road, particularly near the central square and promenade, for convenient access to amenities and the sea.

This area is the heart of Agios Ioannis, offering a relaxed environment with everything you need within easy reach. The main road runs parallel to the beach, dotted with tavernas, cafes, and a few local shops. You'll find the central square to be a pleasant spot for an evening stroll, often with local events or music. The beach itself is well-maintained, with sun loungers and parasols available.

Couples looking for a relaxing beach holiday will find this area ideal. It's easy to spend your days by the sea, enjoying meals at beachfront restaurants, and taking leisurely walks along the promenade. The nearby small harbour also offers opportunities for boat trips to explore the coastline.

For families, staying close to the beach provides immediate access for children to play in the sand and sea. Many accommodations in this central area offer family-friendly facilities, and the calm waters of the bay are suitable for younger swimmers.

When is the best time to go to Agios Ioannis?

The best time to go to Agios Ioannis is during the shoulder seasons, specifically May, early June, and September.

These months offer warm, pleasant weather great for swimming and exploring, without the intense heat and larger crowds of July and August. You'll find the sea is warm enough for a comfortable dip, and the evenings are mild, ideal for dining outdoors.

For couples looking for a romantic getaway, May and September are particularly appealing. The beaches are less crowded, allowing for more private moments, and many of the tavernas and shops are fully open but not overwhelmed. It's a great time for leisurely walks along the coast or enjoying a quiet sunset dinner.

Families travelling with children will find early June to be an excellent choice. The weather is consistently sunny, and the water is inviting for playful afternoons by the sea.
