A magical stay with African vibes and decor
My friend and I came here to relax, dive and celebrate my birthday. The entire stay made it an exceptional experience and the staff (Robert and Joel) were friendly, efficient and very welcoming. A compliment to the chef, as his lunch and dinner menus were excellent throughout the week. The receptionist Geriath (we hope that we spelled it correctly) was beyond what words can explain. Very kind, service minded and simply pleasant charisma. The owner of the hotel was delightful and very accommodating and thoughtful to our needs, especially on our departure day. We enjoyed the massage very much as they were good and friendly as well. The small hotel was charming and very stylish with African vibes and decor. All in all, a wonderfull experience and place. Thank you all

Beauty isn't enough.
Hotel beach chair area is beautiful..however the beach is impossible to swim in. The tide is to far out. Also great deal of seaweed and other plant like things flouting in the water does not make it appealing. NO AC! I missed this part during booking and it ruing my stay, extremely hard to sleep in the heat at night with just a fan. Water in the shower and sink come out salty, very weird to brush teeth and shower. No bottled water, they filter water into a glass jar and sell it to you for 2-3$. Food was not bad, they have a nice lunch and dinner menu. Breakfast was the same everyday, standard eggs and toast. This area of the island is extremely quiet, no life, youll be completely alone, if you like that, its fine, I have a better time up north in nungwi with the nightly hotel band shows and people watching. Aside from that service is great, staff is friendly.

Can’t rate the hotel highly enough, mainly because of the service! Great food, very relaxed and you couldn’t be looked after better. Wonderful location. You must always remember you are in Africa so there will be some challenges but Magic will smooth those out. You would be missing out not to stay here...

Absolutely excellent stay - we were here for 8 nights and it was idyllic. Staff were all super friendly and rooms were v comfy and clean. Our bungalow on the beach was excellent too.

‘Magic’ indeed!! A truly special place!
What a perfect little slice of heaven this place is!! Isolated from the hectic tourism / aggressive sellers of other parts of the island; this place was absolutely perfect to unwind at the end of our mainland safari. Definitely not the cheapest place on the island for the room prices or for food / drink prices but amazing quality, value and service built in to everything they do. All of the staff members seemed to genuinely care that you have nothing to worry about at all during your stay! Thanks!

Really cute hotel! Overall was great. They forgot our airport pick ups BUT I have to say their response was fantastic and they were incredibly apologetic and made up for it. The food is good and menu changes every meal based on the local catches. Great kitchen. Staff are so nice!

The resort itself is very nice, the pool is amazing. The beach was a big downfall compared to Jambiani area, there is a lot of coral and sea urchins (bring water shoes) so swimming was not really possible. Thankful for the pool in this case. The bed was very springy and the sheets were extremely rough(pilly). All in all the place is nice! Food was delicious and highly recommend selecting the full board menu! Not many other options anywhere close by.

This hotel is GORGEOUS, the food is really good and well priced. Rooms are very cute, well decorated with local made pieces and comfortable. The really special stand out thing here is the staff- they are truly lovely people and their warmth and professionalism shaped our stay. I can't wait to go back.

Super relaxing and beautiful beach
Had a great stay with friends for 2 nights. The hotel is small and directly on the beach. The food is good quality and nice selction of drinks in the bar. Bartender is good. The rooms are small but clean and nice. Very quiet and relaxing. The beach is beautiful and it is safe and not many people bothering you. We went running and walking for miles both north and south. We did a short snorkle trip to the small island close by. Paid only $35 for 2 people for a couple of hours from a guy on the beach. Saw lots of nice fish. The hotel has bikes to borrow for using on the beach but they did not work really well. But who needs bikes when you can walk or run. There was another small little hotel next doors, just 100m up the beach, it was called Bandas. We went there for dinner and live Zanzibarian music one night and it was very nice but slightly pricey. I highly recommend 2-3 nights at this hotel, it is just beautiful and so relaxing.

From the moment we arrived at Zanzibar Magic Boutique Hotel we fell in love with the place! Having just come back from a week stay we are already wanting to Go back! The hotel itself was exactly as per the pictures, we loved the feel of the place and felt very comfortable very quickly. The rooms were spacious and although did not have air con (which we were aware of before hand) were kept to a high standard and had a lovely balcony overlooking the pool and beach. Being an eco hotel the turn down service was not every day but if you requested clean towels they were more than welcome to oblige with no trouble. The food at the restaurant was outstanding! We loved every meal that we had there and as mentioned in previous reviews there are no local restaurants within easy reach so to have this service at the restaurant was amazing! And although prices might have been slightly higher than local prices we felts the standard was well worth the price! One of the favourite parts of the whole trip for me was meeting all the amazing staff at the hotel! Every single person that we met at the hotel were incredibly friendly and always had a smile on there face! They made you feel completely at home! One of the bar men even took us for a walk out to the local sandbank on his break to show us the local area. The manager also went above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

Affordable luxury hotel right on the beach. Staff is extemely nice and helpful. Rooms are very clean and te hotel environment is really good. One of the negatives is there is not much to do around the hotel so if you want a relaxing quite place this hotel is perfect for you. Another thing is the restaurant prices. Food and drinks are ridiculously expensive with very small portions considering Zanzibar standards.

Amazing place to stay!!
At first I would like to thank a lot to manager Lukas, who was very helpful and let us have a very late checkout for no extra fee (due to low season). Hotel is small but so cute, super friendly stuff, clean and nice furnished rooms. There is no air conditioner only the fan, but honestly it is absolutely fine and sufficient. the beach is amazing in both cases - during high tide or low tide. What about the restaurant - I don't think I had better meals anywhere else on island. Really amazing food!!! Hotel offer all possible trips on island. I highly recommend this hotel if you are traveling as couple.

Buena elección
El hotel está muy bien y bien ubicado en Matenwe, un pueblecito que no está tan saturado de hoteles y turistas por lo que guarda mayor encanto. Se trata de un pueblecito pesquero. Las instalaciones y la habitación estaban muy bien, recomendable pagar algo más por una habitación en el segundo piso o en el tercer piso porque los que están en la zona baja tienen poca intimidad (al igual que los dos bungalows). Lo único que no nos gustó es el desayuno ya que no es buffet. Tienen un menú cerrado que es siempre lo mismo, al estar seis días alojados al final se hacía muy repetitivo. En las cercanías, en la playa, hay varios sitios locales donde poder comer o cenar a precios mucho más bajos que en el hotel. En el pueblecito, a unos 10 minutos andando, en el centro de Matenwe hay alguna tienda donde también pueden comprarse productos de alimentación. Las excursiones las contratamos también en los puestos de personas locales que hay en la playa, a precios mucho más bajos que en el hotel (la mitad de precio), también los desplazamientos en taxi. Hay en Matenwe un puesto con taxis locales donde pueden contratarse también los desplazamientos y excursiones (se negocia el precio).

About the cheaper trips with beach boys and local restaurants that are cheaper then ours you are 100% right as these establishments don't pay licences and taxes so it is hard to compete with them, not to mention the sanitary standards... We are still very happy that you have chosen our comforts instead of staying in the local hut which obviously would be much cheaper if that is the point. Happy travels! Regards

Trés bon emplacement, l' architecture ,conception et la décoration de l hôtel très réussi ,la petite taille assure le calme et la sérénité . le personnel sympathique, restauration de qualité et varie . Le gros bémol c est qu il n'y a pas de climatisation et selon la période les nuits sont difficiles et on récupéré pas de la chaleur de la journée

Petite structure tranquille sur la belle plage de Matemwe. Architecture traditionnelle très agréable pour les pièces communes. Très bon restaurant d’un très bon rapport qualité /prix. Joli jardin. Le paradis pour se reposer quelques jours. Seul bémol : la chaleur dans la chambre malgré les ventilateurs (nous étions en février, un des mois les plus chaud). Personnel très sympathique.

Omdat we pas ‘s middags vertrokken, maar om 10 uur ‘s ochtends moesten uitchecken, vroegen we of we wel mochten blijven om te zwemmen, drinken, eten etc. Dat mocht en we hebben zelfs de kajak even mogen lenen om het water op te gaan. Minpuntje was de barman die geen wisselgeld teruggaf en zichzelf brutaal een fooi wilde toe-eigenen.

Vi var tre voksne damer som hadde bestilt et tremannsrom. Det viste seg at vi fikk et tomannsrom med en gjesteseng. Etter en natt på hotellet ga de oss et rom til uten kostnad uten at vi hadde kommentert noe. Dette gjorde at de to siste døgnene ble mere behagelig og vi satte stor pris på denne oppgraderingen og velvilligheten fra hotellet.

Ein großes Lob an die Hälfte des Personals. Sehr nett und aufmerksam. Jedoch steht in der Beschreibung, dass es Wasser kostenlos gibt, dies jedoch nur teilweise stimmt. Pro Tag bekommt man pro Person einen halben Liter Wasser in Glasflaschen abgefüllt. Den Rest muss man sich kaufen für fast 4 Euro für 1,5Liter Wasser! Die Katzen wurden von einem Barkeeper mit dem Handtuch verscheucht, dass man vor Gästen vielleicht nicht machen sollte bzw generell nicht machen sollte! Das Essen ist sehr gut trotz der etwas höheren Preise. Der Strand könnte noch etwas sauberer gehalten werden.

El hotel es fantástico. No tiene muchas habitaciones por lo que el ambiente es muy tranquilo y relajado. Las habitaciones son muy cómodas, con unas vistas espectaculares al mar. El hotel está decorado con un estilo rústico pero con muchos detalles de buen gusto y, sobre todo, muy bien cuidado. El personal es muy amable y dispuesto a ayudar al cliente. Además, ponen a su disposición bicis y kayaks de forma gratuita. Nosotros disfrutamos cada minuto que estuvimos alojados.
