Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Yegen?
The best area to stay in Yegen is within the village centre itself, as it offers the most convenient access to local amenities and a genuine experience of Alpujarran life.

Yegen is a small, traditional white village located in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The village centre is characterised by narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses, and stunning views of the surrounding valleys. You'll find the main square, Plaza de la Iglesia, with the village church and a few local shops and eateries, which acts as the heart of the community.

For couples looking for a relaxing escape, staying in the village centre is ideal. You can enjoy quiet walks through the historic streets, dine at local restaurants, and simply soak in the peaceful atmosphere of rural Andalusia. Many accommodations here offer terraces with panoramic views, great for enjoying a sunrise or sunset together.

Travellers interested in walking and exploring the natural beauty of the Alpujarras will also find the village centre a great base. Numerous well-marked hiking trails start directly from Yegen, leading to neighbouring villages, ancient chestnut groves, and scenic viewpoints.
When is the best time to go to Yegen?
The best time to go to Yegen is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months. These periods offer pleasant weather, ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the Alpujarras region.

During spring, the landscape around Yegen is particularly lush and green, with wildflowers blooming across the hillsides. Temperatures are comfortably mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it great for hiking and outdoor activities without the intensity of the summer heat. This time of year is excellent for couples looking for a romantic escape, with opportunities for scenic walks and enjoying the peaceful rural setting.

Autumn also provides wonderful conditions, with temperatures similar to spring. The olive groves and vineyards begin to show their autumnal colours, creating a picturesque backdrop. The harvest season can add a local flavour to your visit, with opportunities to see traditional agricultural practices. This period is well-suited for solo travellers seeking a tranquil retreat, offering comfortable weather for exploring the many walking trails and enjoying the local cuisine in a relaxed environment.
