I arrived after a long tiring 5 hr drive and immediately relaxed with the warm friendly obliging welcome. Mike the owner was very helpful and patient about my enquiries for the area. His wife is a tremendous cook and equally amenable..Highly recommended is the offer of a pizza in the evening totally delicious. The lodging has utmost rustic charm. Such a great relaxing cheery vibe - go for it
The ideal place to stay on the Garden Route as approximately halfway. However more importantly The Trading Place exudes a beautiful calm rustic charm, exemplifed by the host. The most delicious breakfast awaits you at a time of your choce, the bread is homemade. Highly recommended is their preordered pizza in the evening. The host is coincidentally the guide for the river trips, so has exceptional knowledge on the nature of the area. If all this attracts you if you are considering being based in the Wilderness area I would urge you to stay here.
On our way from Cape Town to the wonderful Pure Nature Lodge in Paterson we stopped twice at The Old Trading Post for one night stop-over. We really enjoyed it and on the way back to Cape Town it felt already like coming home :-) And the pizza dinner was really outstanding - really the best pizza we ever had!!!
We loved the quiet and convenient location and the character of the property. The hosts were very helpful with questions we had about the area, and they were so fun to talk with!
Nice location, good walk nearby.
About 8km cycle ride to the centre of Wilderness.
I was able to hire a good mountain bike.
Very good breakfast.
Friendly and helpful owners

We LOVED staying at The Old Trading Post. There's a lot of history to the place, which my mom really enjoyed. The properly is beautiful and surrounded by nature. We enjoyed watching many species of birds while staying on the property. The dogs on the property were friendly and sweet and not overly loud. We enjoyed only one night here but which we could have stayed longer...and plan to return on our next Garden Route adventure. The property is truly peaceful and tranquil. We enjoyed sitting by the pool reading books and resting, the beds and room are comfortable and clean. We stayed in the Tin Room. The only thing we did not like about our room was the floor boards create SO much, it was very noisy to walk around one side of the room. We felt terrible being so loud on our way out the door in the early morning because the room shares a wall with another suite. Mike and Renee were great hosts and even woke up to prepare a breakfast for us, ready at 6:30am so we could get on the road on time! Great food and lovely people who gave us our space but were also very friendly and helpful.

Private but average
Great breakfast and private, but that is it. No wifi in our room. The bathroom did not have a proper door. The lake near by dos not feel accessible. Good hiking near by though. The service was good.
We stayed in a twin room. It was clean & comfortable. Couldn't get wifi in our room & had to be in the main house to use it. The breakfast was delicious & plentiful with a good selection of both continental & hot options. The owner was very friendly.
We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed for longer. The house itself was beautiful with a big front porch. We spent a few hours outside, reading and staring at the beautiful scenery. We were there in winter, but were cozy warm with a heated blanket and after taking warm baths in the tub. Breakfast was big, with both cold and warm options.
We'll definitely be planning to come back someday.
A tucked away place that is very peaceful. Breakfast good, and facilities adequate. Mine host is friendly and informative. For bird watchers one of the lakes' hides is about 5 km away.
The proprietors were fantastically hospitable to some slightly changed plans. Breakfast was good, the pool clean, everything was nice and pleasant and lovely. The gardens themselves are quite nice.
Very comfortable night followed by an amazing breakfast definately a place to be recomended
