"castle ruins of Aggstein") is a ruined castle on the right bank of the Danube in Wachau, Austria. The castle dates to the 12th century. Aggstein Castle is 480 metres (1,570 ft) above sea level, which means it rises some 300 meters over the Danube river valley. It was used until half of the 17th century and restaured in 2004. Since then it is one of the most popular castles in Lower Austria, having some 55.000 visitors each year.
