The rare thing about Barefoot Bungalow is the privacy. You don't share a pool or the deck. You have the house, pool, yard and deck completely to yourself. Our Bungalow is located on the tranquil island of Vieques. Our three bedroom, 2 bath home is tastefully furnished in a relaxed, comfortable bungalow style. The property offers an array of amenities, including a pool for your use only, a deck overlooking the ocean, BBQ, washer and dryer, hammock and, of course, the beautiful blue sea a few steps from your doorstep. You can hear the crashing waves from your bedroom and still be surrounded by the tranquility of your own yard. Wake up in the morning and sit outside on your private patio, looking out over the waves at the islands of Culebra, Puerto Rico and on a clear day, St. Thomas, while you sip your coffee. Listen to the sounds of the surf breaking in the evening as the sun sets while you stroll in the sand looking for shells and sea glass, or lie peacefully swinging in the hammock. Lounge by Pool: What can be more luxurious and refreshing than a dip in your own pool after a long day at the beach? Not much. Lounge in the sun, enjoy the lush tropical foliage, and maybe read a good book. Sit under the fountain and let the water splash over you. Watch the sea gulls and pelicans fly overhead and spot the iguana family that comes to feed on the hibiscus and sun on the wall. Take a night time dip and float on your back and gaze up at the stars. Easy Living: Two of the things that our guests comment on most frequently are the great night's sleep they experience in our comfortable beds, and the luxurious sheets and towels we provide in abundance. We strive hard to make your experience the vacation you want it to be with a fully equipped kitchen (to help you prepare your fresh-caught seafood), air conditioning in all the rooms, and an outside dining area to enjoy the breeze off the ocean. Note: Although we suffered some damage from Hurricane Maria, many of the island's inhabitants suffered much more. Three of the cottages next to us were totally destroyed. They are slowly trying to rebuild, and we applaud their positive attitudes and "can do" spirit. On the Island of Vieques, almost all of the cottages on the water, are located on the northern side of the island. Here the coral reef comes right up to the shore. These beaches including our are great for snorkeling, walking, and shelling and sea glass collecting. These are not the swimming beaches that Vieques is famous for. Those beaches are on the southern part of the island and are in protected parks for all to use. There are no beach houses on those beaches. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that every detail had been thoughtfully planned. Nightlights in every room made it easy for the kids to navigate after dark, and the abundance of hooks for towels and swimsuits was such a helpful touch (especially with little ones running in and out of the pool!). Speaking of the pool—it was a huge hit! Crystal clear, the perfect temperature, and very well maintained. We spent hours swimming, relaxing, and making memories that our family will cherish for years to come.There were plenty of towels; bath towels and beach towels were provided. Even laundry detergent was provided for the washer, cause we all know laundry never ends…. Even on vacation!!! The beds were incredibly comfortable, with soft, supportive pillows that made it easy to fall asleep after fun-filled days. Everything was clean, cozy, and set up to make our stay comfortable and stress-free.We can't recommend this home highly enough. It's ideal for families and truly felt like a home away from home. The house was very comfortable and Charming . Michael's property manager took very good care of us. She responded very quickly if we had any questions or concerns .the air conditioners were a must and kept us very comfortable. The disappointing part was the beach. We thought we were going to have a Sandy Beach and what we got was a beach with some sand and mostly rocks. We did not find out till we got there that you needed water shoes to get in the water because of sea urchins that if you stepped on them could send you to the hospital. Consequently we did not use the beach at all. We had an amazing time on Vieques ! loved the authenticity of the town, the people, the island, loved the horses, the crazy roads, the drivers, the chickens but if you think you're going to go and sunbathe and get in the water on a sandy beach close by this is not for you ##### JoAnne B. Just the right size for our party. Pool was nice and sheltered from the constant ocean breeze. Morning coffee or afternoon cocktail on the patio was a treat. Some day's the biggest question was "beach or pool". Great beachcombing on "our" beach if not truly suitable for swimming. The property manager was very friendly and helpful when we arrived. The welcome basket was a nice touch. Plan to return in 2027\. Note: if you take the ferry, bring a sweater. ##### J. N. You really cannot get a better location - you hear the beach at night and sitting on the patio overlooking the ocean was perfect. The house has all the amenities you need and the Wifi worked well for the most part (one day it was spotty but not a huge issue), as did the AC although you don't really need it as there is a breeze. The owners are extremely responsive and the house manager as well. Neighbor is friendly and we felt safe at all times. To be able to get up and walk on the beach cannot be overstated! We realized that we had stayed in this exact location 20 years ago under a different owner but I think this visit was the best yet! We love Vieques and will be back. Thank you! ##### Alison L. VERY clean house, pristine private pool, well-appointed kitchen, PLENTY of towels and sheets, right on the beach, well-organized, hidden gem. WE WILL BE BACK! We woke each morning to the sound of WAVES and we would make breakfast and eat it outside watching the tide. We felt very secure with the coded fence and the friendly neighbors. We can not say enough for this perfectly groomed 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house. This is a short drive from the grocery store and shops. Perfect for us as we dont care for town-noise. Also! We were usually the ONLY people at the beach behind the house. We felt very priveledged to stay at this gorgeous home on Vieques!femce and the frieny ##### Rodney S. Beautiful beach out the front door, secluded swimming pool in the backyard, far enough from town to have some "quiet", but close enough to get everywhere easily. The hosts thought of everything, from the beach chairs and umbrella to the board games. Falling asleep to the ocean every night was wonderful. The description really says it all. The hosts and the property manager were exceptional. When we arrived, the pack and play was missing a piece, which our property manager went out and got another piece that night to fix it for our use. Also, I found the grill unusable one morning and she had fixed it that afternoon for me to use. And we lost wifi (not that we should be using it at a location with this much natural beauty) and the tech was out in two hours to fix it. Very impressed! ##### Matt R. We had a few minor issues but the owners were VERY responsive and took care of things immediately. They do a check-in so check your VRBO account, that was very nice! The property manager was not available due to an emergency so not her fault at all. I think we just didn't pick the best time of year. It was stormy and the beach in front of the house was rough so we couldn't use it very much. Bring water shoes there is some coral and rocks on the edge when you get in. The pool is so nice and there is a washer and dryer (we didn't use the washer but the dryer is very good). There is a lot of dish ware and extras. If you had six people you would be good for probably 3 meals! (there is not a dishwasher, just FYI) The AC and fans in the house are excellent! We actually had to put them to a warmer temp because we were getting cold. The water is set also so you won't burn yourself if a kiddo turned up the water to high, I liked this feature. It was tricky getting there it's in a tucked away neighborhood but google maps did bring us right there. The roads in general are very narrow, including the driveway and getting in through the gate, don't rent too big of a car! Would highly recommend this home! ##### Lea Ann M. They are the most hospitable hosts we’ve ever had very responsive. Their house manager was great. The location is perfect.
