The best area to stay in Vellego is the historic Old Town, known locally as Borgo Antico, or along the Lungomare for direct access to the sea.Borgo Antico is the heart of Vellego, a delightful maze of narrow, cobbled streets and pastel-coloured buildings that climb the hillside. It's largely pedestrianised, offering a relaxed environment for strolling. Here you'll find independent shops, traditional trattorias, and charming squares like Piazza Garibaldi, which often hosts local markets. The area is also home to the ancient Church of San Giorgio, offering panoramic views.Couples looking for a romantic and authentic Italian experience will find Borgo Antico perfect. The secluded alleys, intimate dining spots, and the feeling of stepping back in time create a memorable stay. It's ideal for those who appreciate history and a quieter pace in the evenings. For those who prefer to be right by the water, the Lungomare, or seafront promenade, is an excellent choice. This area stretches along the coastline, offering hotels and apartments with direct access to the beach and stunning sea views. It's a flatter area than the Old Town, making it very walkable, and features a wide selection of cafes and gelaterias.Families often find the Lungomare particularly convenient. Proximity to the beach means easy access for children to play, and many accommodations in this area offer amenities suitable for families.

The best time to go to Vellego is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, September, and early October. These months offer pleasant weather, with warm temperatures great for exploring the Ligurian coastline and hills without the intense heat and larger crowds of mid-summer. The sea is usually warm enough for swimming from late May onwards. You'll find most attractions, restaurants, and shops are fully open, but the atmosphere is more relaxed than in July and August. For those who enjoy hiking and outdoor activities, May and September are particularly good. The trails through the Vellego hills and along the coast are beautiful with wildflowers in spring or pleasant temperatures in early autumn. It's an excellent time for couples or solo travellers looking for an active holiday without the full summer rush.If you are travelling with family and school holidays dictate your schedule, July and August are still wonderful, but be prepared for higher temperatures and more people, especially at popular beaches and towns.
