"Dona Ines and her son Jesus are warm, welcoming and really good at hospitality. The house is in a tiny town surrounded by beautiful fields and short walk to a cool overlook where I was able to take stunning pictures of the sunset. I arrived after a 33Km walk from Sahagun and was grateful to find such generous people. Dinner was delicious and plentiful and the wine Jesus recommended was excellent. The house was quiet and i had a restful night. Dona Ines prepared breakfast of scrambled eggs and...

Top Valdunquillo Hotel Reviews

Parador De Benavente

Parador De Benavente

10/10 Excellent
"A lovely location and a lovely room. A gem that I'll definitely be returning to. The staff were excellent. The hotel has made the most of the old castle - which creates a wonderful atmosphere. The bathroom in our room was stunning. Clearly recently refurbished and it impressed. My only comment would be that they should have a history of the building, and more about the town itself available for guests. There are so many historic photos showing the old castle and the destruction done to it by Napoleon, but nothing talking about the previous noble family, or the relationship between the town and the ruined castle in the 19th century (when it was clearly heavily looted), and finally how it became a Parador. This is a systematic gap at the Paradors. Too little information at them about the hotels themselves and the local area. Each Parador needs an extensive mini-website or booklet at the hotel detailing all this."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Valdunquillo?
The best area to stay in Valdunquillo is within the historic village centre.

This area is the heart of Valdunquillo, characterised by its traditional Castilian architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, and the central Plaza Mayor. You'll find the Church of San Pedro within easy walking distance, and most local amenities like small shops and eateries are concentrated here. It's a very walkable area, allowing you to easily explore the village's heritage on foot.

Couples looking for a quiet retreat will find the historic centre particularly appealing. The peaceful atmosphere and the opportunity to experience authentic village life, perhaps enjoying a meal at a local restaurant or strolling through the historic lanes, make it a relaxing choice.

For those interested in local history and culture, staying in the village centre provides direct access to Valdunquillo's main historical sites.
When is the best time to go to Valdunquillo?
The best time to go to Valdunquillo is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

During these periods, the weather is pleasantly mild, making it ideal for exploring the village and the surrounding Castilian countryside. You'll avoid the intense heat of summer and the chill of winter, which means comfortable conditions for walking, cycling, or simply enjoying a coffee outdoors.

Couples often find these seasons particularly appealing for a relaxed getaway. The landscapes are at their most picturesque, with spring bringing blooming wildflowers and autumn showcasing rich, warm colours. It's a wonderful time for scenic drives through the Tierra de Campos region or visiting nearby historical sites without the crowds.

For those interested in local culture and traditions, planning a visit around a local fiesta can be rewarding.
