Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Totos?
The best area to stay in Totos is within the main village itself, particularly around the Plaza de Armas.

This central area is the heart of Totos, offering convenience and a local experience. The Plaza de Armas is a focal point, often surrounded by the municipal building, the main church, and local shops. The streets here are generally cobblestone, and the architecture reflects traditional Andean styles. It's a compact village, so most amenities are within easy walking distance.

For couples seeking a peaceful and authentic experience, staying near the Plaza de Armas is ideal. You'll be close to local eateries serving traditional Peruvian dishes and can easily explore the village's cultural sites, such as the historic church. The evenings offer a quiet charm, superb for relaxing after a day of exploring the surrounding natural beauty.

Solo travellers will also find the village centre particularly suitable. It provides easy access to local transport options for day trips to nearby Andean landscapes and archaeological sites.
When is the best time to go to Totos?
The best time to visit Totos is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.

During these months, you'll experience clear skies and warm, sunny days, making it ideal for exploring the region's outdoor attractions. The well-maintained trails for hiking and trekking are more accessible, and the roads leading to Totos are in their best condition, ensuring a smoother journey. This period is particularly good for those looking to engage in outdoor activities.

The shoulder months of April and November can also be a good option. While there might be a slight increase in rainfall compared to the peak dry season, you'll generally find fewer visitors and potentially more attractive prices on accommodation and tours.
